SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 537,091, dated April 9, 1895.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, SMITH L. WELSH, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Oak Harbor, in the county of Ottawa and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Account-Files, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This account file is especially adapted for use as what is known as a ledger, whereby any number of accounts may be kept for immediate reference by simple means, hereinafter to be more fully shown.

The object of the invention is to'provide a bill file having a central arch removably secured, and side arches centrally disposed with relation to the central arch, the side arches acting as guides for the bills and indexes.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the noveldetails of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.

In describing the invention reference will be had to the accompanying drawings form-' ing part of this specification, in which like numerals denote corresponding parts in both views, in which Figure 1, is a view in top plan of my-improved account file and board. Fig. 2, is'a perspective view with the center arch removed, said arch being shown resting on the top of the file.

1, denotes the base-board, which may be of wood or other suitable material, provided with rubber feet or supports 2, whereby the desk or furniture may be protected when in use.

The pins 3, 3, are formed by a single piece of wire bent centrally, approximately U-shaped, the lower portion being secured on the under side of the base by means of staples or the like, with said prongs protruding through aper-o tures in the base and extending upwardly to any desired height.

The arch 4, is formed of tubular metal with the ends thereof slightly tapering at 5; said arch fitting over the pins or pegs adapted to enter apertures formed in the bills and indexes of the file.

The guides 6, 6, are made of wire in the form of an inverted U, with the ends thereof embedded in the base on opposite sides of the arch. Thesevguides are so arranged as to allow the bills and the indexes to abut the wires thereof when folded together on the baseboard, or when thrown over the arch, as shown in Fig. 2. Thus it will be seen that the contained bills of the file are kept evenly adjusted at all times.

The indexes used are of the ordinary construction, consisting of a cardboard with the edges thereof bound with metal to protect the same when handled.

The advantages and efficiency of this de- Vice will be apparent, and it will be seen that in construction it will prove strong and durable and be comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. A-bill file composed of a base having pins to receive the indexes, an arch fitting on the pins, and guide arches on either side of and smaller than the central arch as and for the purpose described.

2. A bill file composed of a base having impaling pins, an arch to fit thereon, guide arches on either side of the main arch and centrally disposed with relation thereto, as and for the purpose specified. V v V In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
