T. F. W. SCHMIDT.
PAPER BUCKET.
No. 536,545. Patented Mar. 26, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE F. W. SCHMIDT, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE DAYTON PAPER NOVELTY COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
PAPER BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,545, dated March 26, 1895. Application filed J 7 16, 1894:. Serial No. I (N0 111011613 To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, THEODORE F. W. SCHMIDT, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Pa per Buckets, of which the following is a speci* fication.
The object of my invention is to provide a paper bucket, barrel, or other cylindrical vessel so constructed as to be suitable for the packing of heavy articles for transportation. The features of my invention will be more fulley set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1, is aplan view of a blank of which the body of the vessel is fo med. Fig. 2, is a perspective view of an inclosed bucket. Fig. 3, is a central vertical section on line y, 1 Fig. 2. Fig. 4, is a section an line 0am, Fig.2. A indicates a straw-board blank of the form of a segment of a circle and cut with notches a, b, and the blank is 3 rolled into a tapering cylindrical form, the straw-board making a double thickness, and the meeting edges of the blank are fastened together by staples c, as indicated in Fig. 3. The notch a forms an oifset against which the bottom d rests. The notch b forms an offset upon which the cover e rests. These heads or covers are secured in position by inside bands g, h, and these bands are secured by staples 1' pass (1 through them and the sides of the vessey 70 represents a bail secured to the staple ears Z, when the device is to be used fora pail. The vessel constructed as herein shown is thus permanently fastened ,at both ends'and is therefore especially adapted for the transportation of all articles such as tobacco, sweet meats, and other commodities which are liable 0 to be surreptitiously taken from the packing case. Another advantage of this construction isthat the parts can be shipped in the knock down form from the manufacturer to the user. I
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters'Patent, is-
A tapered cylindrical vessel formed from a single curved blank comprising two halves of unequal width rolled to form two thicknesses and secured together by staples c, the wider portion of said blank being rolled about the narrow portion, heads (1, e, seated upon the offsets formed by the inner thickness, and circular fastening stripsg, h, secured to the vessel outside of the heads by Staples 2', substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
THEODORE W. SCHMIDT.
