PACKING-CASE;
Original application filed May 27, 1907, Serial No. 375,777.
Patented J'uly 27, 1909.
Serial No. 446,379.
To all whom t Irriafy concern.' l
Be it known that i, Amann) l'. liiiisii, a citizen ot' the United States, residing,` at Deiizince, in the county ot Defiance and State oi Ohio, have invented certain new and usc- 'ful improvements in 'iaclting- Gases, ot which the 'followingis a specification.
My invention relates to improvcineiits in paekingcases designed, primarily, for the transportation and storage o'l liquids contained in bottles or similar vessels.
rlhe present invention relates particularly to sheet-metal pai'tition or division plates for forming bottle-cells 'for receiving and containing bottles whereby the latter are prevented from coming into direct Contact with each other, and said division plates are admirably adapted for use in sheet-metal packing-cases, siieli,-'or example/,fas that class or type shown, described and claimed in my application for Letters Patent. for packing-cases, tiled May 2T, 1907, Serial No. 375,772", ot' which this application is i divisional part.
The paramount object of the invention is to produce a generally-iinproved sheet-metal bottle-cell structure, for use in sheet-metal packing-cases, in which the several partition-plates are adapted to be readily assembled aiid positioned within the walls of the ease, and when so positioned, will be etlectiially maintained in proper relative position io forni the bottle-cells.
YWith these ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring te the drawings, forming a part oil this specification, Figure. l, is a perspective view of the improved partition-plates in their assembled position for forming the bottle-cells. Fig. 2, a perspective view ot the intersecting portions of a niain and cross partition-plate. Fig. 3, a perspective view ot' the interseited portion o'tf a main partition-plate. Fig. 4l, a perspective view of the intersecting portion ot a cross partition-plate. Fig. a perspective view ot a cross partitioiuplate showing a modified forni ot' the intersecting' portion of the saine. Fig. a perspective view of another inodification of the intersecting' portions o'tl a Fig. T, an-
inaiii and cross' iai't'ilioir'iliite.
niodiheaiion The walls l, otl the case may he, of any suitable e. d inventent iorin, and the pai'- tiioinplites, iereinai'ter described, 'forming the bottle-cells, are mounted within and interposed between said walls in any suitable and convenient manner.
The plurality ot bottle-cells are toi'nied in the case, in the present instance, by means otl a plurality ot' niain partition-plates 2, interseeted by a plurality oi auxiliary or crossI partition plates 3, said plates have their edges curled ovei' forming upper and lower headings l-, adapted to iinpinge against the bodies ot the bottles inthe bottleeells. ri`he auxiliary or cross partitionplates B, intersect the inain partition-plates il, by taking tiirougli vertical slots provided with tei'iiiiniil heading-openings (i, adapted to receive the headings ot' the intersecting cross partition-plates 3.
As a means of securingv the auxiliary or cross partition-plates 3, in eiign, gementy with the. inain partitiion-plates 2, o} )positely-disposed notched recesses T, are `toi-ined in the beiuline's el, of the cross pai'tition-plates P3, ot' sui'hcient width and depth to receive the headings of the inain plates 2, so as to 'torni a seaty Yfor the upper headings ot the inain plates` when the cross plates are nioved upwardly, oi' :i seat for the lower l adings when the said cross plates are nioved downwardly. The cross plates, however, are, pret'- erably, inoved upwardly so that the iippci' headings otl the inain and cross plates are substantially in the saine horizontal plane` as shown inost clearly in Figs. l, and 2, ot' the drawings. Fiirtherinoi'e, if desired, narrow recesses or slots 7 may be `orined in the lower headings l, of the cross partitionplates 3, ot only siitlicient width to receive the thickness o'l the inetal o'l the ina in plates 2, as shown inost clearly in Figi'. l, ot the drawings, in which case the auxiliary or cross plates '2, can only be nioved upwardly or in one direction 'for 'fastening with the niain plates. .Vhen the inain and cross plates and 3, have been properly positioned for intersecting' engagement with each other, as
well as properly positioned in the case body, the ends are prefeablyr secured to the walls l, by means of tongues 8, passing through vertical slots and bending over the outer side of said walls, as indicated in Fig. l, ot the drawings. It' desired, the notched recesses 7, or 7, may be dispensed with in the lower headings il, of the cr( s plates 3, and the latter locked in intersecting engagement with the main plate 2, by bending and depressing the upper beadings It, et' the main plates downward into the .notched recesses 7, ot the upper headings 4t, of the cross plates .3, forming a depressed portion or recess 4th, filling the upper notchedY recesses 7, oi the cross plate, as shown in Figs. G, and 7, oi the drawings.
From the 'megoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
Having thus described my invention, withont having attempted to set forth the forms in which it maybe made, or all the modes of its use, Ideclare that what I claim and desire 'to secure by Letters I)atent, is,-
1...In a packing-case, a main partitionplate intersected by an auxiliary or cross partition-plate forming bottle-cells, said plates having their edges curled over forming upper and lower headings, said main plate being provided with a vertical slot receiving said cross plate and provided with terminal beading-openings receiving` the headings of said cross plate, and said cross plate being provided with a notched recess in one of its headings to receive the beading et the main plate.
2. In a packing-case, a mainpartitionplate provided with upper and lower beadings and a vertical slot having terminal beading-openings adjacent to said headings, and a cross partition-plate intersecting said main plate by passing through said slot and provided with upper and lower headings passing tlnfough said beading-openings, said headings ot the cross-plate being provided i slots, said cross plates being provided with upper and lower headings with notched recesses to receive the adjacent beadings of the intersected main plates.
4. In a packing-case, a plurality of main partition-plates provided with'beaded edges and vertical slots having terminal beading openings, and a plurality of cross partition plates intersecting said main plates through said vertical slots, said cross plates being provided with beaded edges and oppositelydisposed notched recesses `in said beaded edges, said notched recesses being adapted to receive and form a seat for the adjacent beaded edges ot' said main partition-plates.
5. In a packing-case, a plurality of main partition-plates intersected by a plurality of cross partiti ori-plates forming bottle-cells, said plates having beaded upper and lower edges, said main plates being provided with vertical slots receiving ysaid cross plates and terminal beading-openings receiving the beaded edges of said cross plates, and said cross plates being provided with oppositelydisposed notched recesses in its beaded edges, said notched recesses on one side being of sur'iicient width and depth to receive and form a seat for the adjacent beaded edges of the main plates and said notched recesses on the opposite side being of only suiiicient width to receive Vthe thickness ot' the metal of the main plates.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
