STAMP-HOLDER AND STAM PER.
SPEG IFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,822, dated March 19, 1895.
Application filed April 2, 1894- Serial No. 506.065. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. DYNEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Stamp- I-Iolder and Stamper, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in the method of and means for applying stamps to envelopesand other mail-matter, and at the same time to furnish a convenient way of keeping stamps when carrying them in the pocket, and to have them ready for use and easily and quickly applied.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pocket stamp holder and stamper closed. Fig. 2 is a view of the same, opened so as to show its construction.
Said holder consists of a frame D provided on three sides with flanges ii for holding the stamps, which are contained in a column in frame D, and have the gummed side downward. 0 represents a cover of leather or some other suitable flexible material attached near its center to the back of the frame D, and
adapted to fold on both sides of the frame in the form of a book cover, and held closed by means of an elastic cord or band P. H is a block or follower, firmly attached atits center to the inner surface of the cover 0, and fitting inside of the frame D so as to rest upon the stamps and adapted to press the column of stamps down upon the moistened envelope.
The method of using this device is as follows:-Moisten the corner of the envelope and then place the same under the stamp receptacle D and press down upon the upper cover. The follower causes the lower stamp to adhere to the envelope which may then be drawn out. Having described my invention, what I
