SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,680, dated March 12,1895.
Application filed August 13, 1894. Serial No. 520,743- (No model.) Patented in Belgium May '7, 1894, No- 109,812.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR EVANS DAVIs,"
a citizen of Great Britain,residing at 53 Melbourne Grove, East Dulwich, S. E., London, in the county of Surrey, England, have invented a new and useful Boot or Shoe Lace Tag and Tie Fastener, (for which I have obtained Let ters Patent in Belgium, No. 109,812, dated May 7, 1894,) of which the following is a specification.
My object is to provide a tag by means of which the bow of a shoe lace after tying may be held and prevented from becoming untied, while the tag itself shall not dangle about.
The invention consists of a hollow tag in the middle of which a slot is formed through which the bow of the shoe lace is passed and held by a sliding collar, thus giving a tidy appearance to the bow and preventing its be coming untied.
The accompanying drawings illustratemy invention, similar letters indicating similar parts throughout.
Figure 1 shows the bow after being tied and secured by the tags. Fig. 2 is the tag proper and Figs. 3 and 4 show the sliding collar, while Fig. 5 is the tag and collar complete.
The tag consists of a metal cylinder Fig. 2 slotted out at A and formed at B in the usual way for securing it to the lace, while the collar which slides upon the said tag and which is shown in Figs. 3 and 4 is prevented from being lost by the pin 0. In Fig. l the lace is represented by the letter D, the tags by the letter E and the collars by the letter F.
The lace l) is secured to the tags E E at each end in the usual way and after being tied the bows which are formed by tying are passed through the slots A A in tags E E as shown and collars F F are then slipped up to the lace, and hold it firmly, the sides of the tags E Ebeing slightly expanded in order to form springs, thus preventing the collars F F from slipping back, and the tags E E are thus at the same time held by the bows D" D and cannot dangle about, while the bows cannot become untied.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is The herein described shoe-lace tag, comprising a cylindrical section adapted to be secured to a lace and having a longitudinal slot through which a bow of the lace is adapted to be passed, said section being expanded upon each side of the slot to form a spring or looking portion and a sleeve slidingly mounted upon the said section, and provided with a pin extending through the slot, for the purpose specified.
