F. 0. 85 H. A. STOBER. CHIMNEY AND VENTILATOR GAP.
No. 535,634. Patented Mar. 12, 1895.
NITED STATES FREDERICK CONRAD STOBER AND HENRY ADAM STOBER, OF SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA.
CHIMNEY AND VENT ILATOR CAP.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 535,634, dated March 12, 1895.
Application filed September 4, 1894:- Serial No. 522,142. (No model.)
' To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, FREDERICK CONRAD STOBER and HENRY ADAM SToBER, citizens of the United States, residing at Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Chimney and Ventilator Gaps, of which the following is a full, clear,
and exact description, reference being had to t at their bases by which they are bolted to the chimney top, with their inner ends or bases of larger diameter than the lower or outer ends whereby said pipes or tubes converge from their bases downwardly and outwardly.-
Over the top of the chimney is placed a cap G whosediameter is in excess of that of the larger end of the chimney AB which cap may be of any ornamentalnature, and is supported rigidly above the top of the chimney A-B by means of four arms H, I, J and K which are inclined inwardly toward the said chimney AB and thence extend downwardly along the exterior of the same, and have their lower ends turned outwardly and upwardly to form hooks, adapted to furnish means for the attachment of rods or guys whereby the device is anchored securely in position. These arms, therefore, not only support the large cap in place above the chimney A-l3, but they also furnish a simple means by which rods or guys may be used as an anchor or means for steadying and securely fixing the whole device in its proper position. The purpose of converging the tubes O, D, E and F downwardly is, first, to create an upward draft from winds which strike the chimney sidewise, and, second, to
allow the escape of air which may beat downward from the top, without checking the draft and forcing the smoke back into the room.
We are aware that chimney tops have been made diverging from the top downwardly, and have pipes or tubes entering the same at points between their ends, and such construction We do not broadly claim; but
What we do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An improved chimney and ventilator cap consisting of a chimney or body portion converging from its upper end downwardly, pipes or tubes entering the same between its ends and converging from their bases downwardly and outwardly, a cap of large diameter above the top ofthe chimney or body portion and arms depending from the cap extending down along the exterior of the chimney or body, and secured thereto, and having their lower ends formed into hooks adapted to receive rods or guys for anchoring the device in position, as herein described.
