To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE S. TRUMBORE, a

- citizen of the United States, residing at Penn'sburg, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chimney-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to' various new and useful improvements in lamps, whether for illuminating or heating purposes, and the invention relates more particularly to novel means by which the lamp globe or chimney will be held firmly and rigidly in place, thereby preventing to a great extent accidental breakages thereof, and overcoming in a large measure blackening or cracking of the globe or chimney due to the imperfect adjustment thereof with respect to the flame.

The improvements which I have made consist in applying a small lug to one or more of the fingers which grasp or support the globe or chimney and in providing a recess or recesses in the globe or chimney with which said lug or lugs will engage, provision being made to allow for the disengagement of the latter with said recess or recesses when it is desired to remove the chimney.

My invention is therefore cheap and simple and attains the ends desired in avery perfectmanner.

For a better comprehension of my invention, attention is directed to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a well known type of lamp burner, showing my improvements in connection therewith, and with the globe or chimney removed, and Fig. 2 a sectional View of the same with the chimney in position.

In both of the views corresponding parts are designated by the same letters of reference.

So far as the construction and arrangement of the parts which constitute the burner A, are concerned, I make no claim thereto. Neither do I wish to be limited or restricted to any particular form of burner, since the improvement which I have made may be used in connection with any and all varieties of burners, the only requisite being of course that a globe or chimney is to be made use of.

B, B, are the ordinary fingers which grasp the lower part of the globe or chimney O, with considerable friction and which are now the sole means of retaining the latter in place. Four of these fingers B, are shown, that being the preferable number, but it is to be observed that-a greater or less number may be used. When four of said fingers are. used as illustrated, I provide two of them by preference, with the small lugs a, one of said lugs being soldered or otherwise secured to the inside of each of said fingers so provided. These lugs are preferably of the triangular shape shown, namely, triangular in vertical section, the inclined side thereof being uppermost. Each of the two fingers B, which is thus provided with these lugs is further provided with a finger clip 1), preferably riveted or otherwise secured thereto, said finger clip extending down on each side of the burner, as shown, and the two finger clips thus made use of can be readily grasped between the thumb and forefinger, so as to cause the upper ends of the. fingers B, carrying the lugs a, to be moved farther apart.

The globe or chimney C, is made of glass, porcelain, or of any other desirable material and is of any suitable configuration. This globe or chimney is held between the fingers B, substantially as heretofore, except that it is provided with a recess 0, therein, correspondin g to each lug a, both as to size, shape and location, and with which the said lug will engage, thereby holding the globe firmly in place. The said recesses 0, may be blown or pressed in the globe or chimney during its manufacture, or they may be formed therein by any suitable instrument or tool after completion.

By pressing the finger clips b, more or less together as explained, the lugs will be disengaged from the recesses c, and the. globe or chimney may be removed.

What I claim is- The combination with a lamp burner A,

provided with the fingers B, a lug a, on one or more of said fingers, and a finger clip 12, secured to the same finger or fingers having said lugs, and extending below the point of attachment between said finger or fingers and thelamp burner, of aglobe or chimney 0, provided witha recess or recesses 0, correspond ing in number and location with said lugs, and engaged by the same, the parts being so [0 arranged that when the finger clip or clips 6 are pressed inwardly the saidlug or lugs will be disengaged from said recess or recesses substantially as set forth.
