ANTHONY FALK, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
PORTABLE SAFETY-PLATFO RM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 534,686,dated February 26, 1895. *1
Application filed April 30, 1 894:.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, ANTHONY FALK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Portable Safety-Platforms, of which the following is a specification.
It is very dangerous working about the windows of high buildings especially in painting and cleaning windows as heretofore accomplished by standing upon the window-seat and clinging to the window while so employed.
It is the object of my invention to furnish a portable safety-platform for the workman so employed and by using two or more of my platforms in different windows and connecting them with planks they will provide a safe platform for working on the exterior of the walls of the buildings.
My invention consists in a novel framework adapted to be secured to window-seats (being adjustable to fit different sized window-seats) and extending without the window to form a platform upon which a workman may stand while painting or cleaning about the window and casings.
The drawing represents a perspective View of one of my portable safety platforms in position in a window-seat.
A is the platform without the building which consists of side bars B, B, provided with shoulders I), 1), adapted to take firmly against the window-seat.
O, O, are cross-slats upon which the workman may stand or upon which a floor may be placed if desired.
Uprights D, D, hinged at cl and rail E form a railing to prevent the workman from stepping over the end of the platform. This railing is held in position by jointed braces F, F, so that the railing may be folded down upon Serial No. 509,482. (No model.)
similar collars g, g, rigidly secured to the bars G, G, and adapted to take over and slide along the side bars B, B. The bars G, G, are pro.- vided with hooked ends g, g, and are provided at the ends thereof with a connecting plate H which may be padded with a soft substance h as carpetor the like. This connecting plate is adapted to bear against the interior surface of the window-seat and the lining of the connecting plate prevents abrasion of the interior wallof the building.
A screw-threaded bolt I provided with head 11 takes through plate J rigidly connected to the slide bars G G and plate K rigidly connected to the side bars B, B. The plate K is provided with a screw-threaded nut 70 rigidly secured thereto. When the frame is placed in posi* tion in the window-seat this screw-threaded bolt is tightened so asto bring the shoulder b, b, and the'connecting plate H against the two opposite sides of the window-seat thereby holding the frame securely in position with the platform extending without the building.
I claim A portable safety platform consisting of platform A having the shouldered side bars B,'B, hooked end pieces G, G, padded bearing plate H, clamping bolt I and a folding railing about the platform substantially as and for the purpose described.
ANTHONY FALK.
