HOP-BOX AWNING.

T0 at whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, JEROME DILLENBEOK and JACOB W. NEAHR, both citizens of the United States, residing at Palatine Bridge, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hop-Box Awnings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention has relation to adjustable awnings applicable to hop-boxes; and it consists in the novel construction and arrange ment of devices, as will be hereinafter more fully described.

The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates our invention, in which the figure of the drawing represents a perspective View of our device.

Referring by letter to the accompanying drawing, A designates the hop-box, having the handles a, by means of which the same is transported. Usually this boX is provided with four compartments, 1), which are separated from one another by the longitudinal and transverse partition 0. Arising from each end of the box are standards B, which support a longitudinal bar, 0, and to the center of this bar is removably secured a central standard, D, the lower end of which is pro vided with a pin, d, which enters a seat, 6, in the upper face of the transverse partition, as shown. Pivoted to the central vertical standard, as at f, are adjustable arms F, which are connected securely at their outer ends to the longitudinal bars G, and a similar bar, H, is secured to the top of the vertical standard, which latter is somewhat higher than the side bars.

I I represent two curved bracebars, the inner ends of which are pivoted to the vertical standard and are provided with slots g, through which clamp screws or bolts play, the latter being secured to the arms F and provided with a thumb -nut, h, by means of which the arms may be secured after being adjusted.

J indicates the canvas or top of the awning, which is secured by its side edges to the side longitudinal bars, G, and left free upon the top bar, H, upon which the central portion (canvas) is supported.

It will be seen that the awning can be adusted to any desired position, and will protect workmen from the sun, rain, 850. At the same time it is simple in operation, durable, and

cheap to manufacture.

Having described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, with the hop-box pro vided with the central vertical standard, D, having the central longitudinal bar, H, secured to the upper end to support the central portion of the canvas, of the arms F, pivoted at their lower ends to said standard and provided with the longitudinal side bars, G, to which the canvas is secured, the curved slotted brace'bars I, and clamping-screws h, whereby said awning may be folded in a contour, substantially as specified.

2. The herein described awning for hopboxes, consisting of the central vertical standard removably secured to the box-frame, the pivoted arms F, carrying the longitudinal side bars, G, and pivoted at their lower ends to the vertical standard D, and the curved slotted brace-bars I, connecting the central vertical standard to the arms F, and provided with the clamping-screws, as and for the purposes set forth.

3. The combination, with a hop-box, of an awning-frame adapted to be folded inwardly, the two sides thereof meeting in the center, and provided with the curved slotted bracebars I, pivoted at their inner ends to the central vertical bar or standard, D, and their outer ends connected to the inclined bars F, pivoted at their inner ends to said standard and provided at their outer ends with the lon gitudinal side bars, G, to which the canvas is secured, said bars F having the thumb-screws engaging the slotted arms, whereby the same is secured in position.
