I -UNITED STATEsPATENT 01mins.
WILLIAM J. MARSHALL, or DESERT, TEXAS.
CLOCK-LEVEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 532,078, dated January 8, 1895.
Applicationfiled July 2,1894. Serial No. 516,304. (No model.)
To aZZ whmn it may concern.-
.Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. MARSHALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Desert, in the county of Collin and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clock-Levels; and I do hereby showing the spirit levels attached thereto.
Fig. 3 is a detail view.
My-clock level is designed to be placed against the wall for the purpose of leveling a clock, and is described asfollows:
A, is the wall-plate provided with two or more perforations and is secured to the wall by means of screws 0..
per or horizontal arms are provided with threaded perforations b, through which work thumb-screws b the upper ends of which work against the lower face of the shelf-plate O.
The shelf-plate is not attached to the wallplate, there being room enough left between the upper edge of the wall-plate and the lower face of the shelf-plate to allow for the adj ustment of the latter. The ends of the thumbscrews 12 are slightly buried in the lower face of said shelf-plate, so that it may not move endwise nor sidewise. Said shelf-plate is held in position by means of spiral springs c, the the upper ends of which are fastened in staples a, secured to the under face of the shelfplate 0, while the lower ends are fastened in the staples 0 secured to the outer face of the wall-plate A. On the front edge and on one end of saidshelf-plate are secured rectangular plates D, their upper edges being parallel to the upper face of said shelf plate. To these rectangular plates D, are secured levels E. These levels consist of a metal case e,
containing an arm e, which turns out from the upper edge of said case and down at a right angle to said arm which part is perforated and threaded, through which threaded 5 5 perforation works a screw 6 the end of which fastens against the outer face of the plate B. Said level case is also provided with two nibs a one at each end of the case, the lower faces of said nibs being on an exact level with the spirit glass 8 secured in said frame e, so that when the levels are put in place the bubble 9 will be exactly in the center of the slotted cover 6 when the shelf-plate is brought to a perfect level. The said shelf-plate is brought to a perfect level by operating the thumbscrews 19 When said shelf-plate is brought to a perfect level the clock is then placed on said shelf-plate and secured to the wall. Said level may be allowed to remain against the wall and under the clock as a bracket, or it maybe removed and an ornamentalbracket put in its place.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A clock level, consisting of the wall-plate A, provided with means for securing the same to the wall; arm braces B, their lower ends being secured to the outer face of the wall- '80 plate A, their' upper and horizontal ends provided with'threaded perforations 1); thumbscrews 19 working in said threaded perforations, their upper ends slightly buried in the lower face of the shelf-plate O; shelf-plate C, 8
resting on the upper ends of the thumb-screws b I spiral springs c, securing said shelf-plate on the upper ends of said thumb screws, said shelf-plate adapted to be leveled by means of thumbscrews b and any suitable level .or 0
levels, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.'
2. A clock level, consisting of the wall-plate A, provided with means for securing the same to the wall; arm-braces B, their lower ends being secured to the outer face of the wallplate A, their upper and horizontal ends provided with threaded perforations b; thumbscrews b working in said threaded perforations, their upper ends slightly buried in the zoo rectangular plates D, secured to the edge and leveling nibs 6 substantially as shown and 10 end of said plates; and spirit levels E, secured described and for the purposes set forth.
to said plates, substantially as shown and de- In testimony whereof I affix my signature in scribed and for the purposes set forth. presence of two witnesses. 5 3. In a clock level, substantially as shown WILLIAM J. M ARSH- ALL and described, the combination with the shelfplate 0, of the rectangular plates D, secured Witnesses:
to the edge and end of said shelf; spirit levels JAMES T. GRAY,
E, having the cases e, arms 6', screws e ,-and J OHN O. SAUNDERS.
