CAN-OPENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part oi Letters Patent No. 531,762, dated January 1, 1895.
Application filed October 12. 1894. Serial No- 525,656- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LBENJAMIN F. BARNES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and usefullmprovementin Can-Openers, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs, wherein- Figure l is a side view. Fig. 2 is an edge view-facing the edge of the blade. Fig. 3 is a View in cross-section upon the line m m. Fig. 4 is an end view of that end of the handle where the operating parts are attached.
The letter a denotes the handle; b, the blade, and c a forked fulcrum-piece. The handle has a socket b to receive the shank of the blade so shaped and located that when the blade is in place, it is located centrally of the handle. The shank of the blade does not fill the socket Z) but the space which would otherwise be empty is occupied by the block d. The handle a has also a socket 6 upon each side, each of which takes therein one leg of the forked fulcrum piece and all the parts are held firmly together by the rivet f. Both the blade and the fulcrum-piece, when in place, extend in the same general direction beyond the end of the handle.
I claim as my improvement- In combination, the handle 0, having a socket for the shank of the blade, the blade I) fastened in such socket centrally of the handle and extending beyond the end of the handle, and the forked fulcrum piece fastened to the handle by each leg, all substantially as described and for the purposes set forth.
BENJAMIN F. BARNES.
