LEE KENT, OF HOT SPRINGS, ARKANSAS.
COMBINATION-HOOK SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 395,704, dated January 8, 1889.
Application filed April 18, 1888. Serial No. 271.075. (No model.)
To (tZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEE KENT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hot Springs, in the county of Garland and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Painters Combination Pot- Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in painters combination pothooks, and particularly as an improvement in the hook patented to me by the United States January 24:, 1888, No. 376,825.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a view showing it used as a handsaw-handle, and Fig 3 showing it used as a can-opener.
My invention is described as follows:
Fig. 1 represents my improved hook complete,in which the blade A represents a puttyknife; B, a tack-puller; D'and E, pot-hooks; F, a revolving glass-cutter journaled in the slot f in the arm of the pot-hook D.
C is a stage-fastener. The two converging ends of the pot-hooks D E, leaving the opening I, make a glass-nipper; the point G, a screw-driver. The edge 72 on the extension H and the projection .I, acting as a rest or fulcrum, together with the body of the tool, make a can-opener. The fiat head K is a tack-hammer and point-driver.
To use the tool for a canopener, force the extension H through the top of the can up to the side projection, J. The edge 71 of the said extension H is sharp, and the lower edge of the said side projection is also sharp and rests on the top of the can, serving as a fulcrum. York the tool backward and forward with a slight pressure forward, and it works well as a can-opener. I
To use the tool as a saw-handle, the sawblade must have a perforation near its heel and another perforation, the size and shape of the side projection, J, a proper distance from'the heel. Secure the saw-blade to the tool bypassing the side project-ion, J, through the forward perforation and a screw-bolt, M, through the base of the potehook D and the rear perforation in the heel of said blade. Said rear perforation may be threaded, or a tap-nut may be used on the threaded end of said screw-bolt.
Having described my IIUIGHUOILWIRWI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The painters combination pot-hook herein described, provided with the putty-knife A,
tack-puller B, tack-hammer K, glass-cutter F, glass-nipper I, can-opener H J, and screwdriver G, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEE KENT.
