To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known, that we, THOMAS' C. HARRY and HUGH W. HARRY, citizens of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Stock-Trough, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stock-troughs; and it has for its object to provide a simple and durable device of this character which may advantageously be employed for the ywatering and feeding of stock, while at the same time providing a trough easily cleaned and one which has no wooden parts exposedto the action of the water, and also offers no projecting parts upon which the stock can be injured.
With these and other objects in viewwhich will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same con.
sists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:-Figure 1 is aside elevation of thestock-trough constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the trough. Fig. 4 is anonlarged detail sectional view showing more clearly the connection of the opposite sides other at their meeting edges as at 7, and se-` cured together by the rivets 8, to complete a semi-cylindrical body extending from end to end of the frame l, to form a trough of the proper -length for the work required of it. The sectional semi-cylindrical trough body 5, is provided from end to end thereof with the transverse corrugations 9, that serve to strengthen and retain the shape of the body and thereby render the same extremely durable for either watering or feeding purposes, and the opposite ends of the trough body are inclosed by the semi-circular end plates 10, that are also made of galvanized iron so as not to be susceptible to rust, and are securely seamed onto the opposite end edges of the semi-cylindrical body.
The opposite upper side edges ofthe semicylindrical trough body are firmly secured to the inner sides of the side rails 3, by means of the nails 11, or other suitable fastening devices, andthe upper and inner sides of said side rails 3, have fitted thereon the side cap plates l2,exteuding from end to end thereof. The side cap plates 12, arev also made of galvanized iron like the trough body and the ends thereof so as not to be susceptible to rust, and are provided with the inner side extensions 13, that face the inner sides of the rails 3, to points below the upper opposite edges of the `trough body, so that the water that may be within the trough cannot be splashed against the inner sides of the side rails and thereby 'cause the same to decay. The said side cap plates are `further provided at their inner sides above the upper edges of the trough body with the inwardly projecting ledges 14, having upper inclined sides 15 extending overthe corrugated portion of the trough body to permit the stock to have easy access to the trough, and an under shouldered portion 16, that projects` over the upper edges ofthe trough body and acts inthe capacity of dams to hold back the water in the event of being splashed about, and insure the complete protection of the wooden supporting frame from decay by being continually soaked with water as in other troughs.
Changes in the forni, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, and at this point attention is called to the fact that while galvanized iron has been specifically described as the preferable sheet metal of which the trough is made, still it will ybe understood that any other suitable sheet metal suitable for the purpose, may be ernployed at the option of the manufacturer.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
