WILLIAM J. VER'I'REES, OF BUSHNELL, ILLINOIS.
THOUGH.

Specification of Letters Patent. Application filedDecember 12, 1911.
Serial No. 665,303.
To all whom @725 may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. VER- TREES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bushnell, in the county of McDonough and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Troughs, of which the following is a specification;
This invention relates to improvements in the feed trough disclosed in Patent No. 906396, dated December 8, 1908, and its object is to provide a trough of greater strength and rigidity, and also one which is lighter, and which can be more cheaply manufactured. With these objects in View, the invention consists in a novel construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and classed.
In the accompanying drawing, forming apart of thisspecification', Figure l is a perspective of a trough constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes the body portion of the trough, the same being formed of a plate of suitable sheet met-a1 which is bentinto semi-cylindrical form, and has outwardly extending longitudinal flanges 6 at its top. lhe end .walls of the trough are rectangular sheet metal plates 7 having their inner sides formed with a semi-cylindrical groove or de pression 8 in which the ends of the body portion 5 seat. At the bottom of the end walls 7 are outstanding horizontal flanges 9 forming supporting feet for the trough. At the top of the end walls are inturned horizontal flanges 10, which overlap the end portions of the flanges 6, and are riveted or otherwise secured thereto as indicated at 11. At the vertical edges of the end walls the material is folded back upon itself as indicated at 12 to stiflen said walls.
By arranging and assembling the parts as herein described, a trough is had which can be cheaply manufactured, and a strong and rigid structure is produced which will stand rough usage. The flanges 6 may also be connected by a transverse brace 15 which is located midway between the ends or the trough.
I claim:
A trough comprising a body portion having slits adjacent toits ends, end walls having grooves in their inner faces in which grooves the ends of the body portion seat, and tongues punched out of the end Walls outside of the grooves, said tongues projecting from the inner side of the end walls and extending along the outer surface of the body portion at the ends thereof, the free ends of the tongues passing through the slits of said body portion and being clenched on the inside thereof.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM J, VERTREES. Witnesses GERALD A. Tir'ron, N. R. MARTIN.
