UNITED STATES,
PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS C. MOORE, OF GREAT FALLS, MONTANA.
HAlR-CURLERa SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 530,787, dated December 11, 1894.
Application filed January 4, 1894.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS C. MOORE, of Great Falls, in the county of Cascade and State of Montana, have invented a new and Improved Hair-Curler, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The body of myhair-curler is provided with a clamp or clasp, which is pivoted, and also adapted to be-revolvedaround said body, so that when a lock of hair is wound close to the head or face, 'and, on the last turn, the clamp does not come into due position to enable it to hold the lock tightly curled, it may be adjusted or revolved to enable it to do so.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, ih which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is aperspective viewof a hair, curler constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation. Fig. 3 is a plan view, the clamp being shown closed down; and Fig. 4 is a broken rear end view, the clamp being in the open position.
The body A of the curler is conical and hollow, as usual, and is adapted to receive the ordinary conical heating iron B; and pivoted to the body A, is a tongue 0, pivoted near the large end of the body and adapted to clasp the free ends of the hair for the convenient and proper winding of the same. The curler is also provided with a clamp D Serial No. 495,599- (No model.)
for clamping the hair when wound and preventing unwinding, and my invention relates only to this clamp. Thus the base of the clamp arm D is passed transversely through ears 6, formed on the meeting ends of a divided ring E, or otherwise pivoted to said ring, and the latter is formed separately from the body A and held to revolve on the latter as follows: The body is formed with an annular flange a, which projects at right an gles, or approximatelyso, and the ring E is fashioned to form an internal groove or channel c, Fig. 2, thereby fitting over the flange a, the arrangement being such that the ring may be revolved around the body A and the iron B. The free end of the clamp Dis curved as at d, in substantially a half circle, and in a plane at right angles to the length of the clamp, and then continued forwardly as at d, the arrangement permitting a proper engagement of the clamp with the body when closed down on the latter.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent s In a hair-curler of the character specified, the combination with .the tapered tubular body having a radial flange atits larger end, of a ring or collar fitted loosely on said' flange and adapted to revolve thereon, and a clamp arm pivoted to the ring, as shown and described.
THOMAS O. MOORE.
