SPECIFICA'IION ibrmng part of Letters Patent No. 528,843, dated. November 6, 1894.

T0 aZZ whom it may concern- Be it known that I, DAVID PRICHARD AL- LEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beacon, in the county of Mahaska and State of Iowa, have invented a new and usefu1 Charger, of whieh the followin g is a. specificatien.
The inventon relates to improvements in chargers for supplying powder to dril1 holes for blast-ing.
The object of the present nvention is to provide a smple and inexpens'ive eharger, adapted to be readily aud convenently handled for supplying powder to drill ho1es for blasting.
The nventon eonsists in the construeton and nove1 combnaton and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described,llustrated in the accompa.nying dra.wings, and ponted out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a. charger constructed in accordanee with ths inventon. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectonal view of the same.
Lke numerals of reference indicate correspondng parts in both the figures of the drawmgs 1 designates a tubular receptacle, constructed of sheet metal a.nd provded."at ts nner or lower end with a plug 2 .of wood or other suitable material forming a bottom for the I'GCBPELCB. The upper end of the receptacle is out at an angle or beveled to form a taperng spoon-like extension 3, adapted for drectng blastng powder into drll holes to enable the blasting powder to be readily handled and poured into the hole without splling or wasting it. The upper edge of the receptacle is strengthened and thickened at 4 by bendng the sheet metal, forming the receptaele, on its inner fase, thereby preserving the shape of the upper end of the receptacle, and preventing the same becoming bentr twsted out of shape. The receptae1e has connected to its bottone by a staple 5 and. a screw-eye 6 a handle 7, whch by being loosely and hingedly connected with the receptacle enables the Iatter to be firmly and safely held,and at the same time tilted te direct its contents into a. dril1 hole. The sides of the staple are passed through the wooden bottom or plug of the receptacle and clinched on the upper face of the same, and the sereweye is inserted into the upper end of the handle, whoh s preferably constaructed of wood.
It willbe seen tha.t the charger is simple and inexpensve in cons'tructon, and is adapted to enable powder to be readily handled andpoured into drill ho1es for blasting wt-hout waste.
Changes in the form, proporton and the minor details of construction may be resorted te without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this inventon.
VVhat I claim is- A charger comprising a receptacle constructed of sheet metal and havng a. wooden bottom and provided With taperng inclined upper edges forming a. projecting portion, a handle, and a staple and screw eye loosely hinging the handle to the bottom of the receptaole, substantially as descrbed.
