which, being wrapped and fastened around a post, will prevent the strap from slipping toward the ground and the accidents likely to ensue from such causes.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a view ot' my strap wrapped around a post as in use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same detached and the strap extended. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same detached from the post, but having the 'parts fastened as in position thereon.

Referring to the figures on the drawings: l indicates a strap provided with a suitable means of securing it around a post, for example.4 I prefer to employ the fastening mechanism illustrated which consists of a disk 2 provided with an eylet 3,the latter being adapted to be passed through eyelet holes 4 and to be caught by a snap hook 5 secured to the end of the strap. The disk serves to prevent the withdrawal of the eyelet and affords a secure and adjustable means for fastening the end of the strap to it, at any required point. The disk is preferably secured, as by a strap 6, to the end of the strap l so as to prevent its being lost or misplaced.

For preventing the slipping of the strap when in place on a post, or the like, I provide, in addition to suitable fastening mechanism, a contractile section which may be made, for example, by forming a slot 7 in the strap l preferably in proximity to the end which carries the snap hook and in fastening to the opposite ends of the slot a spiral spring 9,.as by means of rivets 10.

Itis not essential that the slot yshould be formed in the strap 1, but I prefer that form because it affords protection for the spring.

The parts of the strap l are, when the spring is contracted, bent, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings.' When the spring is fully expanded they serve as limiting pieces and prevent excessive expansion of the spring.

l. The combination with an unobstructed aperturedstrap as distinguished from onehaving projections thereon provided with terminal fastening mechanism, of a second strap secured to the main strap and provided with fastening mechanism vadjustably retained upon the strap within the apertures whereby the last named fastening mechanism may be adjusted upon the strap to engage the terminal fastening mechanism without the intervention of obstructing co-operating means, substantially as specified.

2. The combination with an unobstructed strap, of a hook and an eyelet independently secured to one end of the strap, and unobstructing means at intervals upon the strap for adj ustably securing the eyelet intermediately upon the strap, substantially as specitied.

3. The combination with a strap having apertures therein, of a disk, an eyelet carried on the disk and adapted to be inserted through the apertures, and a hook upon the end of the strap for fastening it to the eyelet, substantially as and for-,the purpose specified.

4.. The combination with a strap provided with apertures, and a hook, of a disk, an eyelet adapted to be inserted through the apertures, and a strap secured to the disk and to the main strap, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
