Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY A. LAHL, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
NECK-PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,534, dated September 25, 1894.
Application filed October 19, 1893- serial No. 4 30- N0 m el-l To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY A. LAHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, State of Wisconsin,
have invented a certain new and useful Im provement in Neck-Protectors; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to neck protectors for barbers use, and the object of my invention is to provide a device adapted to be adjusted in position about the neck during the opera-' tion of cutting the hair, so as to prevent the clippings of hair from finding their way down the neck, inside the clothing.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a view illustrating the same in position on the neck.
Referring by letter to said drawings, A designates a cape formedpreferably of soft paper, and suitably shaped at one edge as at a, to fit around the neck in a familiar manner.
Around the curved edged of the protector is secured in any suitable manner, a strip B of cotton batting or any other suitable material of soft fibrous texture.
In applying my improved device to the neck, the usual apron or hair cloth 0 is placed about the neck in the ordinary manner, and the protector is then adjusted in position in the manner shown in Fig. 2 with the strip B of cotton batting or similar material in contact with the skin. While the hair is being out any clippings, which under ordinary circumstances would slip inside the clothing about the neck will be caught by the fibrous strip B around the inner edge of the'protector, and will be retained thereby, and efiectually prevented from slipping down the neck.
After the operation of cutting the hair has with itall clippings of hair which have not been brushed away before its removal, and all liability of said clippings finding their way inside the clothing about the neck is thus effectually prevented.
My improved device may be so cheaply made that after being once used it may be thrown away, and a new one used for each subsequent customer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A neck protector for barbers use comprising a cape of flexible material having a curved neck opening extending from one edge inward to its central part, and a layer of soft fibrous material secured to one surface of the cape at and adjacent to said neck opening, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY A. LAHL.
