UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. KEOGH, OF BROOKLYN, NEV YORK.
BODY-SHIELD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 525,710, dated September 11, 1894.
Application filed June 25, 1894- Serial No. 515,567. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM F. KEOGH, of the city of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Shield, which is fully set forth in the following specification.
My invention is designed to aid bicyclists, skaters, runners, and the like, by cutting the wind before them when in motion, as the bow of a boat cuts the water. By thus reducing the resistance of the wind to a minimum, a large increase in speed is obtained, besides which my device acts as a protector to the lungs.
My device is easily adjustable, can be adapted to the body and may be made of light materials. When not in use it may be folded into a small space.
My device is particularly useful to bicyclists in overcoming the resistance of the wind. 0
My device is composed of two separate parts, made of any suitable stifi material. The parts project from the body toward each other at an angle, and are united in front, forming there a sharp and rigid outline. The parts may be united in front by various well known means. The parts are connected in the interior by means of straps, which permit of the sides being broadened or narrowed in order to adapt to the body.
My device is attached to the body by means of suspenders or hands fixed to the upper rear ends of the parts or sides and connecting with buttons placed on the lower rear ends of the parts.
The accompanying drawings will serve to illustrate my invention.
Like parts are designated by like letters.
Figure 1 represents a front view of my device, on a body. Fig. 2 shows a perspective view from the rear. Fig. 3 shows a cross section.
A and B represent the two sides or parts of my device.
Oshows the sharp and rigid outline in front where the parts are united.
D shows the interior strap extending between the two sides by which the sides can be narrowed or broadened, as occasion may require.
E and E' represent the suspenders over the shoulders which are buttoned or adjusted to the sides A and B at b and b.
F shows a strap connecting with the lower ends of the two sides. I
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A shield, composed of two separate parts,
made of any suitable stiff material, projecting at an angle toward each other and united in front, thereby forming a sharp and rigidoutline, with connecting straps in the interior, and suspenders for adjusting to the body, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof- I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' WILLIAM F. KEOGH.
