Description

H. P. CASE.
SWIMMING GLOVE.
APPLICATION IILED JUNE 12.1912.
Patented Jan. 7, 1913.
I Toall whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IIor P. Case, a citi-- HQY P. CASE, OF STQCKTOII, GMIFU SW 111 a iterates.
bpecification ct Letters Eaten rive-arena.
Patented Jan. 3,1191%.
Appltcation'filed June 12, 1912;. Serial No. 7033M.
zen'of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swimming-Gloves; and I do declare the following to be a clear,
- gloves, the object of the invention being to designed. for use produce a glove especially eing so constructin swimming, such glove ed as to present a substantial web attached to the. back of the fingers and hand similar to the web of a duck or frogs foot whereby the wearer in swimming may present a Y i the ungloved hand.
' greater resistance surface to the-water thus enabling him to swim much more easily and rapidly and a greater distance than with A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly efifective for the purposeslfor which it is designed.
These ob ects, I accomplish by means of such structure and relative, arrangement of the parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims. On the drawings similar characters of ref erence indicate corresponding parts in the several views. p
Figure 1 is aplan view of myimproved glove. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on a me X-,X of Fig. 1. Fig. 3. is a' side view 'ofa modified form of glove. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of a fragmentary .portion of the glove. 7
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the numeral 1 desi atesthe' hand. portion of the glove provided with the usual finger members '2 and an elastic wrist band- '2.
- The glove in practice may of any desired fabric, and in providing my lmproved Structure I sew a suitable'fabric or web 3 to the tips of the finger member. This web or V fabric thenprojects across the back of the fingers and the back of the hand and is then again sewed well out toward the wrist as at d. This fabric then stretchin back of the fingers and hand wi present a substantial web similar to the web of a frog or ducks foot. The wearer therefore can with the forward movement of his arms close his fingers and cut through the water .in the usual manner and then as he makes his backward movement he may extend his fingers and the entire web 3 then presents a resistance surface against the water which will permit the wearer to propel himself with ease and speed through the water. The feature of having the web-sewed well toward the wrist forms an intermediate pocket 5 between the web and the back of the hand which will receive water and thus also add to the resistance surface of the glove.
Fig. 3 shows a modified form of glove in whichthe web 6.is a metallic plate secured 'to finger-members 7 v and provided with a buckle 8 to'buckle the same around the wrist. Fromthe foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a across the 1 device as substantially fulfils the objects'of the invention as set forth herein.
While'this specification sets forth indetail the resent and preferred construction of the evice, still vin practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention. Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and-useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the'character described comprising a glove having a hand and finger members, a web secured to the tips of the finger members and extending over the back of the finger members and being stitched to the body of the glove at a point near the wrist thereof forming an intermediate pocket between said web and the back of said glove, as described. I
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
