Description

(No Model.)
0. H. SMITH.
GHILDS SAFETY SKATE.
No. 544,490. Patented Aug. 13, 1895..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEQ OHARLES HENR-Y SMITH, OF TORONTO, CANADA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ASA MATHEWS, OF SAME PLACE.
CHILDS SAFETY-SKATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 544,490, dated. August 13, 1895.
Application filed December 21, 1892. Renewed February 4, 1895. Serial No. 537,305. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES HENRY SMITH, pattern-maker, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Safety-Skates, of which the following is the specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple skate for childrens use, which will not endanger the ankles; and it consists essen-' as an integral casting, as shown, and is provided with two forward runners B and one rear steering or guiding runner O.
D are two holes formed one on each side of each of the front runners and to the top of the same in the body A.
E are two holes formed one at each side of the rear runner, the top of the holes being bounded by the upwardly-extending ridges f, against which the heelabuts when the skate is placed upon the boot. The holes D, above the front runners B, as will be seen on refer- 3 5 once to the drawings, form openings for the passage of the strap, as also do the holes E, above the rear runner C.
G are teats formed on the outside edge A of the skate and central bridge A" of the 40 body A.
It is necessary to provide only one strap to fasten on each skate, as suggested by the drawings; but, of course, two may be used for each skate, if desired.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. Askate formed integrally and comprised of the front runners, B, and holes, D, situated above and to each side of the front runners, a rear runner, O, and holes, E, situated above and to, each side of it, the top of the holes being bounded by upwardly extending ridges,
f, as and for the purpose specified.
2. A skate formed integrally and comprised of the front runners, B, and holes, D, situated above and to each side of the front runners,
a rear runner, O, and holes, E, situated above and to each side of it, the top of the holes being bounded by upwardly extending ridges,
f, and teats, G, situated on the side edges, A, and central bridge, A", of the skate, as and for the purpose specified.
