Description

(No Model.)
' T. 0'. BELDING.'
PIPE PASTENER.
No. 525,088. Patented Aug. 28, 1894.
Inga 2 02 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS C. BELDING, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE CANTON. STEEL ROOFING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
PlPE-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 525,088, dated August 28, 1894.
Applicationfiletl January 12, 1894. Serial No. 496,612. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS C. BELDING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark'and btate of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1, is a view of the fastener, showing its spike partially driven into a wall, and
illustrating a pipe placed in position to be clamped. Fig. 2, is a view, showing the fastener in proper position to hold a pipe, and illustrating a pipe properly located. Fig. 3, is a sectional view of the joint, showing the parts upside down from the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 4, is a View showing a portion of the spike and its socket. Fig. 5, is an edge view of the swinging or pivoted jaw. Figs. 6 and 7, are views of the hanger proper, showing different formed and shaped arms or jaws.
The present invention has relation to pipe fasteners, and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawln s. I
In the accompanying "drawings A, represents the spike, which is formed of sufficient size and strength to properly hold a pipe, as hereinafter described, after said spike has been driven into the wall of a building. The spike A, is provided with the driving head a, to one side of which driving head is located the integral arm or jaw B. To the outer end or portion of the spike A, is pivotally attached the arm or jaw C by means of the rivet a. or its equivalent, which arm or jaw is provided with the notch or recess a, which notch or recess is for the purpose of receiving the seam of a pipe, as illustrated in Fig. 2. In use the pivoted or swinging arm C is placed in the position illustrated in Fig. 1, which position brings the arms B and C in proper po sition to place a pipe between said arm. As
arm B, which movement properly clamps the pipe, as illustrated in Fig. 2. For the pur-- pose of bringing the arms B and C directly opposite each other, the pivoted end of the swinging arm or jaw C is seated or set into the socket d. The arms B and C are bent or curved so as to conform with the form of the pipe designed to be clamped.
In the drawings I have illustrated three different forms of arms or jaws to illustrate the application of my invention. The different forms of arms or jaws'are not modifications, except as to form only, as the mechanical construction and operation is the same regardless of the shape of the arms or jaws.
For the purpose of providing a proper contact face for the swinging arm C against the wall, and at the same time holding said arm a short distance away from the face of the wall, the extension e is provided, which extension is located substantially as illustrated in the drawings,.and is formed integral with the swinging arm C.
Having fully describedmy invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I 1. As an improved article of manufacture, the spike A, provided with the driving head a, and the integral arm or jaw B, and the pivoted arm or jaw C, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the spike A, provided with the driving header, and the integral arm or jaw B, the pivoted arm or jaw C, provided with the notch or recess c,'substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination. of the spike A, provided with the driving head, and integral jaw or arm, the pivoted arm or jaw C, provided with the extension 6, substantially as and for the purpose specified. g
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS c. nELDINe.
