Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH JULIUS HILLE, schoolmaster, of Leipsic, inthe Gernan Empire, have invented an Improved Pen )r Pencil Case, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent in Germany, No. 63,813, dated August 23, 1891, and an additional patent, Yo. 66,309, dated May 28, 1892, and in Great Britain, No. 20,125, dated November 8, 1892,) )f which the following is a specification, refarence being had therein to the accompanyng. drawings.
The subject of this inventionis an improved ion or pencil-case, the construction of which vill be best understood by reference to the Lccompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case, howing it open, While Fig. 2 is a cross-secion thereof.
The arrangement of this pen-case is such hat,-as its cover b is lifted, to open it, its :orrugated or fluted bottom-plate a. is raised .long with the said cover by the chain 0 conleeting the cover with the plate. The length I the chain c is so proportioned that, when he cover or lid b is lifted to the full extent, he loose or movable end of the fluted plate arises with it until it comes to be level or .early level with the upper edge of the box. iy such means, the articles resting upon the aid plate a,-such as lead and slate pencils ind pen-holdera are brought into a position [1 which they may be readily and without inonvenience grasped and taken out of the ase when required. Other articleslikely to e of use to the child or student, such as a presentinstance, three. The intermediate or central brass spring f at the sametime serves for keeping the case securely closed, as, when the cover is turned down, the said spring f engages with the edge of a metal plate h, screwed or otherwise secured to the center of the front-edge of the box. A stud, whereby the box or case may be conveniently opened and closed, is provided on the front-side of the cover b, at a point corresponding to the position of the plate a on the edge of the case.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. A pen or pencil case provided with a hinged cover, a movable corrugated bottom plate and a connection between one end of said plate and the cover, substantially as described.
2. A pen or pencil case provided with a hinged cover, a movable corrugated bottom plate and a connection between said plate and said cover, said cover having clips for holding articles, one of said clips having a portion for engaging said case to retain the cover in closed position, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
