- O. B. WILGOX.
PORTABLE WORM FENCE.
No. 521,627. Patented June 19,1894.
N V ENTOR.
NITED STATES PATENT O FICE.
CORNELIUS B. WILO OX, OF DEERFIELD, OHIO.
PORTABLE WORM FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 521,627, dated June 19,1894. Application filed August 23, 1893- Serial No. 483,863. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CORNELIUS B. WILOOX, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Deerfield, county of Portage, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Portable Worm Fences, of which the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in portable worm fences, consisting of certain features of construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1,0f the accompanying drawings is a side elevation of a portable worm fence, illustratingmy invention. of. same, and Fig. 3, a section through the post between the laterally projected arms.
The object of my invention is to provide a portable worm fence adapted for the use of wire which may be constructed without the expense required to provide post holes or lateral braces.
For the purpose of this application I have shown the post supported on spalls of rock, but if preferred they may be supported on brick, vitrified plates or upon the ground.
The posts A may be made of any suitable material; for the purposes of this case I have shown a two by four wood post, having at the top and lower portion stirrups B,each consisting of the sides B and the base B which is socured to the posts, thesides being adapted to embrace the end portions of the panel rails or boards 0, D, in which the boards are secured by bolts a. The angles of the arms B, may be varied, which with the length of the boards 0, D, will determine the pitch of the worm or space covered by the fence. To complete the panels, wires as Eare strung on and secured to the outside portion by placing them in .-kerfs b, formedin the outside por- Fig. 2 is a plan view.
To stretch the wires E, a corner post may be planted at the corners of the field and any of theusual appliances used to tighten the wire; or the tighteners may be placed on the end panel post. It is of course understood that only short sections of wire can thus be tightened, say for instance the wires extending between three or four posts.
It will be noticed that when the end post is secured, the draft of the wires will draw the posts A in toward the central longitudinal line G, shown in Fig. 2, making the fence rigid through its length.
To remove the fence the wires E are first spooled 0E, after which the alternate panel boards 0 and D, are removed leaving each alternate panel in erected form, minus the wires E.
Having thus fully described the nature and object of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure-by Letters Patent, is v A portable fence consisting of posts set in worm fashion and having kerfs on the opposite edges of each alternate pair, panel supports consisting of the ends B which are socured to the posts and the arms B, panels secured to the said arms, wires strung in the said kerfs, and spacing strips F, having kerfs in which the wires are seated, substantially as herein described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 12th day of August, A. D. 1893.
' CORNELIUS B. WILOOX.
