Description

(No Model.)
W. TEMPLE. HORSE BOOT.
.No. 520,193. Patented May 22, .1894.
. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' WILLIAM TEMPLE, OF WINDSOR, NEW YORK.
HORSE-BOOT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 520,193, dated May 22, 18
Application filedDecember 29, 1893- Serial No. 495,083. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it 'known that I, WILLIAM TEMPLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Windsor, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Boots; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in that class of horse-foot gear designed to prevent interfering.
The object of my device is to provide a more effective, and desirable article than those heretofore produced, one that can be more easily applied and removed.
With these purposes in view my invention consists in the peculiar features and combinations of parts more fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which illustrate my invention: Figure 1, represents a perspective view of a horses hoof having my invention applied; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the device detached; Fig. 3, a detail section, and Fig. 4., a second detail, also in section.
The reference letter A, indicates the horses hoof to which my improvements are applied.
a, indicates a protector which consists of a strap a, adapted to encircle the hoof and to be held in place by the clipsB and B. These clips are each provided with a horizontally extending stud b which passes into an opening b at the base of the hoof, and directly- Flexible fingers c, which are two in to this side by means of the rivets D, and
the body portion 0 of the clip is countersunk in a vertical groove or way (1, so that this portion will not prevent the milled side of the base from engaging the hoof. The base D, and fingers c, are secured to the strap, by means of the rivets D and the fingers project through the openings E, in the latter, while the strap is broadened to a width equal to that of the base D, so as to cover the same and protect it from blows of the hoof.
A section of rubber tubing 8, embraces the strap at that point which passes around the rear portion of the hoof so as to prevent the strap from chafing this more delicate part of the hoof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v A non-interfering device consisting of a thong or strap adapted to embrace the hoof, in combination with a cushioning device consisting of a rubber base secured to the inside of the strap, and having formed thereon an integral finger which projects through the strap and outwardly therefrom so as to receive the blow of the striking hoof, and a securing device countersunk in the inner side of the base so as to lie flush with said side, and provided with a stud adapted to pass under the hoof and thereby assist in securing the cushioning device in place, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM TEMPLE. Witnesses:
D. F. BROWN, J. F. TERRILL.
