A A. KARNBAGH. FOLDING FRAME FOR HAMMUGKS.
No. 519,286. Patented May 1, 1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT KARNBAGH, on BARBY, GERMANY.
FOLDING FRAME FOR HAMMOCKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,286, dated May 1, 1894. Application filed August 23, 1893. Serial No. 483.840. (No model.)
To all whom zit/may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT KARNBACH, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Barby, in the Province of Saxony, Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Folding Frame for Hammocks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention consists of a folding frame on which to sling hammocks and the same is more especially designed for use for hospital and military purposes.
In order to make the present specification more easily intelligible, reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which similar I letters denote similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure I is a side elevation of the frame when put up foruse; Fig. II a ground plan of Fig. I. Fig. III is an end elevation of Fig. I. Fig. IV shows the frame partially folded;
Fig. V the same entirely folded up and Fig. V1 is a detail view of the main joint of the said frame.
The frame consists of the two triangular end posts of the shape clearly shown in Fig.
III, the four lower stays b b b b pivoted respectively at e e to the lower part of the main joint A and at f'f f' f tothe outside of the lower part of the end posts and the two' upwardly extending stays c c pivoted .at d d to the joint block A and having their upper ends hooked at g g to engage over pins h h .in the upper part of the end posts. The upper parts of the end posts a a are provided With pins it" whereon the hammock is slung. It will be seen that the lower stays or ties b I b b b are in plan View the same form as the end posts, sothat when the upper ties or stays are disengaged from the pins h h, the
.said end posts may be folded into the lower stays as shown at Fig. IV. The central joint block A is so constructed that when the above mentioned parts are folded together in the manner described the upper stays or ties will fold down outside the same (Fig. V) and thus form a closely folded easily manipulated packet.
In order to move the frame and hammock about when the same is extended or fitted up, it is only necessary to furnish the lower ends of the end posts with rolls which may also if necessary be provided with rubber tires in order to prevent noise.
The frame is folded up by simply unhooking the ties c c, folding the end posts down inside the lower stays b b b b and then folding the longer ties c 0 down outside the first mentioned stays in the manner clearly shown in Fig. Y. I
I claim as my invention- The combination of the end posts a a, the lower stays b b b b pivoted to the outside of the lower part of said end posts and bent to correspond in shape with the same when folded together and pivoted also to the central joint block A, the ties c c pivoted to the block A, as described, at d d and having hooks at their farther ends, suitable attachment devices it h at the upper part of the said end posts over which said tie hooks engage and means for suspending the hammock from thetop ends of the said posts.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, at Berlin, Germany, this 27th day of June, 1893, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT KARNBAOH.
