ONE HALF BURGLAR-ALARM.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARVEY A. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Burglar-Alarm, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvementin burglar alarms, of that class in which a clockalarm mechanism is put into operation by the movement of parts with which the alarm is connected.
The object of my improvement is, to provide convenient means for controlling the action of the alarm-mechanism, as hereinafter fully set forth. j
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 represents a plan of my alarm secured to a window-sash, a portionof the case being broken away. Fig. 2 represents an end elevation of the same. Fig. 3 represents a side elevation of the alarm mechanism, one side of the case having been removed. 1
In the drawings, 2, indicates a hollow metal,- lic casing, formed, preferably, in two like parts, and adapted to enclose and support the mechanism of the alarm. Mounted in said casing and secured to one side thereof is a clock-alarm mechanism of ordinary construction, consisting of a driving-wheel, 3, which is actuated by a coiled spring (not shown), an escapement-wheel, 4E; pallet, 5; bell-hammer, 6, and bell, 7. Mounted also on the interior of the casing is a flat spring, 8, which is secured at its lower end to the casing and is provided at its free upper end with a bearing for the short shaft, 9, which carries the friction-wheel, 10, having, preferably, a rubber tire, 11, and arranged so as to projectthrough a slot, 12, in the back side of the casing. Wheel is provided on one side with a laterally projecting 1ug, 13, which engages an arm,
14, projecting from the bell-hammer, the arrangement being such that when lug 13 is in engagement with arm 14 the escapement wheel is prevented from turning. Pivoted to the opposite side of wheel 10 and projecting through a slot, 15, in the front of the casing,
is a rod, 16, provided with a laterally projeot- $0 ing lug, 17.
' The lower sash of awindow is indicated at, 18, and the upper sash at, 19.
The operation of my device is as follows: The casing containing the alarm mechanism is secured to the upper edge of the lower sash, 18, in such a position that the tire 11 of wheel 10 is in contact with the face of the upper sash 19, and spring 8 is put in tension with sufficient force to hold the rim of the wheel firmly in contact with the face of the upper sash. The alarm mechanism being wound, wheel 10 is turned by drawing rod 16 outward until lug 13 is in engagement with the arm 14, thereby preventing the operation of the 6 alarm mechanism. If now the lower sash be raised, or the upper sash be lowered, wheel 10 will be thereby rotated,in the direction indicated by the arrow thereon, and lug 13 will be withdrawn from arm let, and, the alarm mechanism being released, the bell will be rung continuously. When it is desired to move the sash without releasing the alarm mechanism, lug 17 on rod 16 is put in engagement with the outer face of the casing, as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, thus Withdrawing the rim of the wheel 10 from the face of the upper sash and firmly locking lug 13 in engagement with arm 14:. p
I claim as my invention- In an alarm apparatus, the combination with the clock-alarm mechanism and its inclosing casing, of the wheel provided with a lug arranged to engage and stop said alarm mechanism, said wheel being mounted on a yielding bearing and arranged to project through the side of the inclosing casing, and the rod pivoted to said wheel and provided with a lug adapted to engage the casing, all arranged to co-operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
