Description

PATENTED NOV. 5, 1907.
B. UHLMANN. BURGLAR ALARM. APPLIGATION IILBD'NOVJIB, 19
' said button to operate the bell. Pivoted to the arm 12 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BERNHARD UHLMANN, OF PASSAIC, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ANTONIO ALVES, OF ENGLEWOOD, NEW JERSEY.
BURGLAR-ALARM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNHARD UHLHANN, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Passaic, county of Bergen, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar- Alarnis, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention pertains to burglar alarms to be applied to doors, windows, etc., and arranged so as to be operated upon automatically by the opening of the door of the window.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the alarm device; Fig. 2 shows the attachment of the alarm device to a window sash; the window being shown closed, and Fig. 3 is a similar view with the window open.
The alarm device consists of a bell a that may be an ordinary bicycle bell or the like, and that is secured to a frame consisting of cross arms I), c by means otwhich the bell can be fixed to the window sash In (Figs. 2, 3). l Secured to these arms b, c is a plate springd that is adapted to extend with its free end over the button e of the bell and that has the tension to press against the Application filed November 13. 1906. Serial No. 343.235.
of the frame, is a swinging lever 'f, the upper end of which is adapted to act as a stop for the spring d when it is desired to cut out the bell and render the alarm inoperative'as may be the case in the day time. The free end of the spring e is provided with a projection m that when the window is closed will rest upon the outer sash L whereby the spring d will be held out of contact with the button e of the bell. When to open the window, either of the sashes are moved, the spring e'will be released and pressing on the button 6 will cause the alarm.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination with the two sashes of a window, of an alarm bell, a frame carrying said bell and secured to the inner sash, a plate spring secured to the frame of said bell, the same extending over the button of the latter and resting with its free end on the outer sash, and a swinging lever pivoted to the frame of the bell serving to cut off the connection between the spring plate and the alarm bell, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
Signed at New York this 12 day of November 1906.
BERNHARD UI-ILMANN.
