Description

TORINEY' INVENTOR (No Model.)
' P. H. HUTGHINSON' BOTTLE Patented Apr. 24, 1894.
. WITNESSES: 7% WM I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK HARVEY HUTCHINSQN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters iPatent No. 518,606, dated April 24, 1894. Application filed January'lO, 1394:. Serial No. 496,445- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK HARVEY HUTOHINSON, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement relateg particularly to bottles of the kind used in connection with bars tion with a bottle or other vessel, of a plug arranged inward of the mouth and provided with a sinuous passage, a valve seat inward of the said plug and a ball valve operating in connection with such seat.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a central vertical section of the upper part of a bottle embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a similar viewillustrating a modification. Fig. 3 includes a plan view, a side view and a bottom View of the plug shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 includes a plan view, a side view and a bottom view of a plug of another modified form. Fig. 5 is a side view of a plug of still another modified form. Fig. 6 includes a plan view, a central vertical section, and a bottom view of a plug of another .modified form. Fig. 7 is a vertical section of a plug and a portion of a bottle neck, illustrating another modification.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A designates a bottle, having a body a, a neck a, and a mouth a The inner part of the neck flares outwardly, or in other words, toward the mouth. Near the point where the body joins the neck, is a valve seat a With this valve seat is combined a ball valve B which will roll out of place when the bottle is inclined and thus permit of the outward flow of liquid, but will descend to the valve seat when the bottle is raised to a vertical position and thereby prevent the ingress of liquid. Preferably another ball valve B will be combined with the flaring portion of the neck.
0 designates a plug which is intended to g be fixed in the neck of the bottle. It maybe secured by cement or otherwise. In Fig. 1,
this is shown as having a number of spirally arranged external grooves c, which are open at top and bottom. In Fig. 5, a single spiral groove 0' extending circumferentially around a plug is shown. In Figs. 2 and 3 the plug has a vertical groove, 0 a circumferential groove 0 and a vertical groove 0 all of which form one sinuous groove in effect. In these figures I have shown that a spring D, operated substantially like an umbrella catch and arranged within a recess r, in the exterior ot the plug may engage with a recess r in the neck of the bottle to fasten the plug in place. In Fig. 4 I have shown three vertical grooves 0 0, 0 which communicate with a circumferential groove 0 the latter being also in communication with three vertical grooves 0 4, e 0 All these grooves form in effect a single sinuous groove. In Fig. 6, I have shown two vertical grooves c", 0 on opposite sides of a plug, and an oblique transverse groove 0 between the two. These three grooves form in effect a single sinuous groove. In Fig. 7 I have shown the pin 0 fitted into a transverse recess 0 in the plug. A spring 0 is arranged in the recess behind the pin. Opposite the recess the neck of the bottle is provided with a recess into which the pin 0 will shoot when the plug is adjusted to its place.
The plug which I employ will prevent the insertion of anything into the neck of the bottle for the purpose of tampering with the valves B or B and yet it will allow the flow of the liquid outward. The valves will permit the outward flow of the liquid, but will preclude the inward flow.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a bottle or other vessel, having an internally flaring neck and a valve seat, of a plug having a sinuous groove and two rolling valves, one ooacting with the valve seat and the other with the tapering neck, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FREDERICK HARVEY HU'ICHINSON.
