Description
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. BROWN, OF NEW' YORK, N. Y.
BABY WALKER AND CRADLE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,795, dated January 2, 1866; antedated December 28, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. BROWN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Baby Tender, Walker, and Cradle Combined; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of the invention consists in having a light cradle, made of wood, or a frame with a sacking-bottom and a seat in one end of it, the other end of which is pivoted to the two upright posts. Under or over the back of the seat is one or more springs, so that a child placed in the seat can, by touching its feet t0 the floor, be aided to jump up and down. The two posts before named are held in a frame whichis seton wheels. By adjusting the springs to bring the seat down, so that the childs feet rest on the iloor, the child is supported in the act of walking. Or it can be used as a cradle, in which case it is kept in motion by the nurse pressing her foot on the treadle attached to the back of the seat.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
There are two parallel bars of wood, e, in each of which are two rollers or wheels, f. These bars are connected at each end by cross-bars of suitable length, thus making a frame. At one end ot' this frame are two upright posts, d. The seat a is placed in one end of the cradle form, the other end of which is pivoted at c, between the posts d. The seat a is supported above or below the seat, or both, by steel, rubber, wood, or other suitable springs. The foot-treadle j is attached to the back ot' the seat by a cord or wire.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the cradle-form b t' with the seat a, pivoted at c on posts d, the frame e, and the springs j and k, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
' JOHN H. BROWN.
