UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 5, 1906.
Application filed July 12, 1905. Serial No. 269,281.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER HANSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Stilts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in spring-stilts; and the object of my improvements is to provide an amusement device to be secured to the feet while running footraces at picnics or similar places of amusement.
In the drawings, Figure l is a top plan view of one of my spring-stilts;.Fig. 2, a side view of same; Fig. 3, a top plan view of a spring-stilt of modified construction; and Fig. 4 a side view of the latter.
Referring to the drawings in detail, a rep resents a plate made, preferably, of wood and provided with two openings a, extending crosswise therethrough and adapted to re peive straps for fastening the plate to the oot.
Rigidly secured to the rear end of the plate ground when the plate is secured to the foot. The springs are preferably made strong enough to support the weight of the user without collapsing but partially.
In operation one of the stilts is secured to each foot by means of straps inserted in the openings 0, and buckled over the toes and instep. The user then attempts to run a race with one or more other persons having the same stilts on his or their feet, and the awk ward movements of the runners is adapted to provoke laughter and amusement for the lookers-on. In the modified construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4 two coil-springs instead of one are secured to the bottom of the plate and have their outer ends connected by means of a metal strap f, Which has its ends bent around the lower coil of the spring.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the character described, a plate adapted to be secured to the sole of the foot, and a coil-spring, having one end connected with the under side of the plate and having its opposite end adapted to rest on the ground.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER HANSON.
