FOOTGEAR.
Application filed February 27, 1924. Serial No. 695,448.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON Grown, a citizen of United States, residing at Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Footgear, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in foot gear and its object is to provide a device adapted to be removably secured to the feet of an individual to aid in walking.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device which will materially lengthen the stride so that a greater distance may be covered without increasing the exertion of the user.
Still another object of the invention resides in the provision of a light strong and durable device which may be attached to or removed from the foot of the user at will.
With the above and other obje; ts in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved foot gear.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral designates the tread portion of the device which comprises a pair of arcuate m tallic strips 11 which are twisted at right angles at their forward ends and pierced to receive the clamp bolt 12.
The rear ends of the plates are riveted at 13 to the upper leg 14; of a substantially U- shaped plate 15. As shown the rear ends of the plates are upwardly offset at 16 to provide a stop for engaging the heel of the user, as clearly shown in Figure 1.
Formed I entrally of the leg 14:, of the plate 15, is an opening for the reception of a plunger 17 which passes through an opening in the leg 18 of the plate'15 and is provided at its lower end with a stop flange 19 to which a cushion 20 is secured.
Surrounding the plunger 17 between the leg 18 and the flange 19 is a compression coil 2?, designed to urge the p unaer clownwardly and into contact with the surface to be traversed.
As shown the upper end of the plunger is headed as at 22 to limit the downward movement of the plunger. Secured between the forward meeting ends of the strips 11 and by the bolt 12 are the forward ends of the rocker elements 23, which are bowed outwardly and downwardly as shown in the drawings to provide stability.
The rear ends of the rocker elements are bent angular-1y as at 24 and are secured be tween the upper leg 14: of the plate 15 and the rear ends of the strip 11 by means of the rivets 13 previously mentioned.
In operation, the device is secured to the foot of the user by means of the straps 25 and 26 and upon striding in the ordinary way, it will be seen that the foot will rock on the device thereby lengthening the stride andowing to the fact that it rocks on the surface traversed, it will be seen that the step will be further lengthened to the extent of the peripheral contact of the elements 23.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred form of my invention, minor changes may be made within the scope of the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A device of the class described comprising a tread member, a pair of arcuate supporting members secured to the underside of the tread member and adapted to contact with the surface traversed, and a cushioned heel support centrally therebetween to maintain balance associated with ltnheltread member at a point rearward of the 2. A device of the class described comprising a tread member having an offset portion at the rear end thereof, an arcuate supporting member fixed to the tread memher, a transversely Ushaped plate at the rear end of the tread portion, a vertically slidable plunger in said U shaped plate, a cushion at the lower end of the plunger, and yieldable means for urging said plunger downwardly.
