Description

(No Model.) H. R. SAUNDERS. HOLDER FOR TINS OR THE LIKE.
No. 515,369. Patented Feb. 27,1894.
WITNESSES. //VVENTOH UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
HENRY ROWLAND SAUNDERS, OF NASSAU, NEW PROVIDENCE.
HOLDER FOR TINS OR THE LIKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,369, dated February 2'7, 1894. Application filed June 7,1893. Serial ITO-476,892. (N0 model.)
To 00% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY ROWLAND SAUNDERS, residing at Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Tins or the Like, of which the following isa specification.
It is the object of my invention to provide a holder or stand for receiving and supporting tins, cans or receptacles of any kind, such as are used for containing milk or any other desired material.
It is my purpose to provide a holder which will permit the tin or receptacle to be introduced and removed through the bottom of the holder which for this purpose is provided with elastic legs having ledges adapted to support the containing vessel when in normal position but by springing the legs outward the ledges are forced from below the containing vessel which may then be removed.
In thedrawingsz-Figure 1, isa perspective view of the holder; Fig. 2, a detail sectional View; Fig. 3, a detail view of a spoon wiper, and Fig. 4, a modification of the same.
The holder or stand comprises the drum B of metal, celluloid or other suitable material and the rim D at its upper edge from which the spring wire legs I depend alongside the drum. These legs have projections bent in them at 2 to bear on the sides of the drum near the lower edge thereof and from these projections the wires of the legs incline outwardly at R and then are bent inwardly, forming ledges 4 projecting inside the vertical plane of the drum so that when the tin or containing vessel 5 is inserted these ledges will support it. From these ledges the feet 6 incline outwardly having turned up ends 7 to rest on the table. The tin or containing vessel may be inserted by simply pressing the holder down over it, the inclined feet riding on the edge of the tin so that the spring legs will be spread apart and when the ledges reach the bottom of the tin the legs will spring inward again to clasp the tin and support it.' The legs are restrained from too great separating movement by the ring 0 extending around the upper part thereof, and
the legs may be spread apart to release the tin by raising the ring A so as to engage the inclines R.
In Fig. 3, is shown a spoon wiper formed of wire and adapted to be secured in any suitable manner at the upper part of the-holder. The wiper has a semi-circular portion 8 adapted to fit the spoon. As shown in Fig. 4, the wiper may have depending studs or points 9 formed by bending the wire so that any drips will be directed properly to fall into the receptacle instead of running back along the wire of the wiper to get upon the holder. The cover of the holder is shown at X.
I claim 1. In combination, the drum or holding part, and the spring legs secured thereto and having supporting ledges at theirlower ends and inclined feet below the ledges, substantially as described.
2. In combination, the drum or holding part, the spring legs having the supporting ledges and the inclines R above the same and the ringA adapted to engage the said inclines, substantially as described.
3. In combination, the holding drum, the spring legs connected therewith having the supporting ledges, the incline feet below the same, and the inclines R above and the ring A to engage the inclines R, substantially as described.
4. In combination, the drum, the spring legs having the lodges and the upper ring 0 extending about thelegs, substantially as described.
5. In combination, the holding drum having a spoon wiper projecting inward at its upper portion and the spring holding legs having ledges at their lower ends to engage the bottom of the receptacle and adapted to permit the insertion or removal of the receptacle, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
