SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,455, dated February 13, 1894.

To au whom it maf/y concern.-
Be it known that l, WILLIAM LIoNs GATE- WOOD, of Louisiana, county of Pike, and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cant-Hooks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to an improved device Io for closing boxes, rizo., having somewhat of the construotion of a cant dog, and consists of the features pointed ont in the claim.
In the drawing I show a perspective View of Iny device in which A is a bar to which is pivoted near the lower end a pair of parallel arms B. These arms are bent back or curved at their outer ends and converge to form a point or hook B. The lower end of bar A is widened into an are shape or segment which zo beginning at the extreme lower end a in the Serial No. 474,725. (No model.)

A groove is formed running longitudinally of the arc face of suoh segment and in this groove is set and secured by bolts o a piece of metal O conforming to the general curve of such segment and having teeth opointing toward the arms B.
I claim- The combination of the lever A and the hook B, pivoted thereto, said lever having its end and side curved away from said hook on an arc a, a and provided with the inserted ratchet blade C, substantially as described.
