SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,031, dated February 6, 1894.
Application led January 26, 1893. Serial No. 459,821. (No model.)
, To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM RANSWEILER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Currycombs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1, is a perspective view of the comb showing all of its different parts. Fig. 2, is a detached view of the shedder bracket or bar, showing the same coated or incased'with vulcanized rubber. Fig. 3, is a detached view of the shedder bar, showing the same before ssv it is coated. Fig. 4, is a transverse section of the shedder bar. Fig. 5, is a transverse section oi' the shedder bar through line Fig. 2.
y The present invention has relation to curry combs, and it consists in the dierent parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings A represents the curry comb, Lwhich may be of the form shown, or it may be of any other desired form or style, reference being had to properly attaching the shedder bracket-or bar to the back of the comb.
To the comb A, is attached in any convenient and Well known manner, the handle a, which handle may be substantially of the form shown in the drawings, or it may be of any other desired form.
The shedder bracket or bar B, is preferably formed of metal and is substantially of the form shown in Fig. 3, and as shown, its ends are provided with the extensions or knockers b, which knockers may be substantially of the form shown, or they may be of any other desired form. The bracket or bar B, is also provided with the flanges c, which flanges are provided with apertures d,said flanges and apertures being for the purpose of securely attaching the bracket or bar B, to
the back of the comb A, by means of rivets or their equivalents.
Y For the purpose of providing a shedder bracket or bar, well adapted for the purpose designed, said shedder bar is coated with rubber or like material; and `for the purpose of providing a means for uniting the rubber, and thereby securely and permanently attaching the rubber to the shedder bar B, said bar is provided with the notches or recesses e, which notches or recesses may be located substantialiyas shown in Fig.3 or they maybe located at any other desired point, as it will be understood that the location of the notches or recesses is immaterial, as the only object of said notches or recesses is to provide a means for uniting the rubber. In use, the rubber is placed around the shedder bracket or bar B, before the same is vulcanized, and after the rubber has been properly adjusted it is vulcanized, thereby securely uniting the rubber to the bar B. For the purpose of causing the rubber to unite atthe point above the flanges c, the apertures f may be formed and located as indicated in Fig. 3.
It will be understood that by providing the bar B, and molding rubber around said bar, a shedder Will be provided that will not be liable to injure or pain the animal upon which itis used.
By providing the notches e and locating said notches on the edge of the shedder-bar B the rubber will better unite, thereby more securely attaching and uniting the rubber to the rigid bar B.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The shedder-bar B provided with the knockers b, and the notches e located upon the edge of the bar, and a rubber shedder molded around said bar and into the open notches e, all secured to the back of a currycomb, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
