Description

R. M. nosE. `HAIR-(TITELING DEVICES.
No. 195,455. Patented sept.z5,1a77.
PATENT OFFICE.
REUBEN M. ROSE, OF WILLIAMSBURG, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAIR-CURLING DEVICES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,455, dated September 25, 1877 application filed May 16, 1877.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, REUBEN M. RosE, of Williamsburg, in the county of Kings, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Curlers and Frizzers 5 and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved device for curling hair, its object being to provide a device that may be substituted for the curl-papers ordinarily employed by females for curling their hair, that can be conveniently fastened at the ends to hold the hair in position after having been secured around the device, and which can be readily unfastened to detach the curl, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
To this end my invention consists of an elastic strip of vulcanized rubber of suitable size, provided with metallic fastening devices at the ends, which are inserted before Vulcanization, and secured insaid strip by hardening of the rubber consequent upon the vulcanization thereof.
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents a view of my improved device in its normal position; and Fig. 2, a view of the same, showing a ringlet of hair secured around it and the two ends of the device secured together.
The letter A represents the body of the device, consisting of an elastic strip of indiarubber, of convenient size, and B C the fastening devices, consisting of a hook and eye placed in the respective ends of the body by inserting their Shanks in the material while in a plastic state, before vulcanization, the said fastening devices becoming permanently secured in said ends during the process of vulcanization.
My improved device is employed by wrapping the hair around it in the same manner as the ordinary curl-papers, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, after which the hair is secured in position by engaging the fastening devices B C at the ends.
The article thus produced is simple and inexpensive in its construction, and is convenient in its application, as it can be fastened and unt'astened without trouble at a moments notice.
What 1 claim, and desire to secure by Let;- ters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a device for curling hair, consisting of a body of elastic rubber, having metallic fastening devices at its ends, substantially as set forth and shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of May, 1877.
