IRONING-BOARD.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 511,250, dated December 19, 1893.

Application filed September 20,1893- Serial No. 435,997. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ARCHIE C. PFOHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at ashiugtou, in the county of Daviess and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in IroningBoards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the board attached to the edge of a table; and. Fig. 2 is an under side plan view thereof.

The invention relates to improvements in that class of ironing boards which are removably secured to the edge of an ordinary table, and it has for its objects to provide means for securing the board in position on a table top, and to securely lock the board to the table against accidental displacement, all of which will be more fully hereinafter described and particularly pointed outin the claims appended.

Referring to the'various parts by letter, a designates the ironing board, which may be of any desired shape and is formed with a recess of in the center of its larger end. Pivoted in suitable blocks which are secured to the under side of the board a on each side of the recess a and at the inner end thereof, is the leg Z). One end b of this leg extends upwardly through the recess a, and has formed in its outer edge near its upper end the notch b which in operation receives the edge of the table. On the upper side of the board a, suitable distancein from its larger end on each side of the recess a are secured stops 0 which abut against the edge of the table and prevent the board ctbeing forced inwardly too far under the table.

On the leg I) a suitable distance below its pivot, is secured the block b which is formed with a cam -shaped lower edge b against which the inwardly bent end (1 01? the pivoted arm d engages. This arm d is pivoted in a block (2 secured to the under side of the board a in such a position that the end (1 of the pivoted arm will bind on the cam 12 when it is moved in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1, and cause the upper end of leg b to bind on the table.

The operation of the device is as follows:- The larger end of the board is placed under the table-top, the stops 0 abutting against the edge thereof. The legb is then moved outwardly until the notch in its upper end engages the edge of the table. The pivoted arm 01 is now swung down in the direction indicated by the arrow, until its end (1 engages the cam su rface b of the block 5 The arm is then forced onto said cauncausing the upper end of the leg to securely bind the board to the table, and securely holds the board in position against accidental displacement.

In Fig. 1 is shown, in dotted lines, the position of the parts when the table is folded.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim isi l. An'irouing board consisting of a board a recessed at one of its ends, a leg I) pivoted on the under side of the board a, one of its ends extending up through the recess of the board a and having a notch in its upper edge, and a pivoted device connecting the leg and the board 0. below the pivot of the leg, and having a cam action to cause the upper end of the leg to bind on the table top, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.

2. An ironing board consisting of a board a having recess a, a leg pivoted to the heard one of its ends extending up through the recess and being notched as described, the arm (1 pivoted to the board a, and cam (1- carried by the leg, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
