SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 509,748, dated November 28, 1893.
Application filed July 1, 1893- S crial No. 479,358. (No model.)
T0 on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVE J. MEYER, of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Show-Case, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved showcase, which is simple and durable in construction, arranged to prevent pilfering and to exclude all dust from the goods, and more especially designed to receive sponges and like articles which are kept moist to exhibit their proper qualities.
The invention consists of a case having sectional glass wallsof which one is provided in each section with a glass door, and horizontal partitions secured to the case walls between the sections thereof to form compartments located one above the other.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details, and combinations of the same, as will be hereinafter described and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement. Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional plan view of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. i is an enlarged sectional Fig. 5 is a cross section of the same detached. Fig. 6 is a like view of the same in a closed position on the case; and Fig. 7 is a face view of one of the glass panes.
The improved showcase is provided with a hollow base A containing a drawer B adapted to receive sand or other impurities dropping from the goods exhibited, the said drawer being also adapted to receive moistened sand or other moistened material, so as to keep the articles supported in the case in a proper condition. the corners thereof are erected the posts 0 connected with each other at their upper ends by a suitable top D, and also connected with each other by side bars E supporting a number of wire screens G, dividing the interior of the case into a series of compartments On the top of the base A and at F located one above the other, as plainly illustrated in the drawings. The side walls of the case are formed by glass planes H, each inserted between adjacent posts and correspondin g side bars E, so that four glass panes are necessary for each compartment, as will be readily understood by reference to the drawings. One of the side walls of the case formed by two adjacent posts, their side bars and glass panes, is provided with doors I, one foreach glass pane H,as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. Each of these doors I is fitted into a recess or opening H cutout of the pane H, the said recess and door being preferably semi-circular in shape as shown in the drawings. See especially Fig. 7. Each door I has its body formed of a glass pane, the edge of which is incased in a metallic frame 1' formed at its ends into eyes I engaging staples J fastened to the corresponding side bars E on the upper edge of the corresponding pane H. The metallic frame or rim 1 rests against the front edge of the recess H in the corresponding glass pane H, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 6. The door thus formed can be readily swung upward to open the recess or opening H to permit of removing or inserting articles in, the corresponding compartment F to which the said door leads.
As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, each wire screen G is supported on the corresponding side bars E, the said wire screen being provided for this purpose on one side with eyes G engaging upright pins Gr attached to the corresponding side bar E. The opposite side of each wire netting is provided with extended rods G3 of the wire netting to engage staples G attached to the side bar on that side of the case. By this arrangement the wire netting G can be easily inserted or removed. The lowermost wire screen G covers the open top of the base A directly above the drawer B. Now, it will be seen that by this construction, the interior of the case is rendered completely dust-proof, so as to protect the goods exhibited on the wire screens, and at the same time ready access is had to each compartment at the upper end thereof, through the doors I. It will also be seen that any sand, grit or other impurities dropping off from the sponges orother goods exhibited in the case,- fal l s .down into the drawer B from which it can be readily removedby emptying the drawer. The case is preferably made in pyramidal form, so that the cornpartments decrease in size, the several cornpartmentsbeing used :for vvarious kinds of articles.
Having thus fully described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcnt 1 1. A showcase comprising a case having sectional, glass side walls, one of which is provided in .each section ,with a hingedglass door, and horizontal partitionssecured to the glass walls between the sections of the walls "*to form compartments located one above the 3. A showcase, comprising a base having an open. top and.containinga.drawelga series of posts supported on the top ofthe said base at the corners thereof, side bars connecting the posts with each other, glass panes set in the said posts and side bars, horizontal partitions supported. on the said sidebars, and glass doorshinged inftlie glass panes of one of the side walls'for the case, substantially as shown and described.
4:. A showcase provided with a glass pane having a recess or opening, and a glass door having a metallic frame hinged to the side of theea ean fit inginto thes i r cessror opening, substantially as shown and described.
In a showcase, the combination with the *frame and the glass panes having recesses or openings formed in then], of glass doors for GUSTAVE J. MEYER. Witnesses:
