UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED J. HARKSEN, OFv HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO ADDISON B. FLESHER, OF SAME PLACE.
lRONlNG-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming partof Letters Patent No. 507,221, dated October 24, 1893.
Application filed January 21, 1893. Serial No. 459,230. (No model.)
F0 all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ALFRED J. HARKSEN, of .IIoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and usevention consists in the novel construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved ironingboard complete and ready for use as a skirt- Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of the two parts of the same separate, Fig. 3 representing the part which is adapted by itself for use as a sleeve-board.
Upon a suitable base A is erected a stand- 25 ard B from which projects in one direction an arm 0. The said arm 0 is preferably formed with a regular curve from the point 0 to its extremity, substantially as represented. This arm, supported as described, is adapted 0 for pressing sleeves, cuffs, and other portions of garments having curved seams.
The skirt-board D is adapted to be supported by the standard B and arm 0 and for this purpose it is provided on its under side 3 5 with a block E which is fitted to the curve of the arm G from its lowest point 0 to its highest point 0. The skirt-board D also has a loop F which is adapted to engage the notched rear end 0 of the arm 0, as represented in Fig. 1, and near the other end of the block E are provided pins G, G, which are adapted to engage the arm 0. Between the curved portion of the arm 0 and its notched rear end 0 a depression is formed as at a so that when the skirt-board has been placed in position after the loop has been engaged with the said end 0 it cannot be shifted longitudinally with respect to the arm 0. The pins G, G, prevent lateral displacement of the front portion of the skirt-board.
The mode of use of my improved ironingboard will be readily understood from the foregoing and need not be described further herein.
I claim as my invention In an ironing-board, the combination with a base A, a standard B, and a curved arm 0, of a skirt-board having secured on its under side a block to fit the curved arm, a loop to engage the rear end of the said arm and pins to engage the forward portion of said arm, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALFRED J. HARKSEN.
