HOSIERY FORM Filed Oct. 2, 1 937.
, Patented Feb. 7; 1939 PATENT OFFICE HOSIERY FORM William J. De Witt, Auburn, N. Y., assignor to Shoe Form 00., Inc., Auburn, N. Y., a. corporation of New York Application October 2, 1937, Serial No. 166,973
' hosiery forms and more particularly to a support for such forms whereby the form is held in a position similar to that which might be as- 5 sumed by a leg when a person is standing on the toes.
The object of this invention is to provide such a support which will hold the hosiery form upright without the need of any other supporting or steadying means, and will expose to view the entire form with the exception of a part of the bottom of the foot and. with which the hosiery form is quickly and easily engaged or disengaged without danger of tearing or otherwise injuring the hose placed on'the form for display. 1
I These and other objects will appear from a consideration of the followingdescription taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in
which: v Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the support, and Fig.2 is a cross-sectional view taken along the 1 line 2--2in Fig. 1.
The support l comprises a base I I and a cuplike pocket l2. The base H has extending from 25 the opposite ends thereof, upwardly converging sides I and 8 connected by the curved or truncated portion 9 (Fig. 1). The base is of Celluloid or similar material and is preferably hollow to receive sand or the like by which the support is weighted and held steady.
, The pocket 12 is formed on one side by a curved wall l5 of Celluloid or similar material which is preferably transparent. The portion of the base forming the remainder of the pocket is slightly concaved and depressed to provide a recess l2 and a wall l6 which encloses the edge of the wall I 5 and to which that portion is secured by suitable means, as for example an adhesive.
The pocket is open at one end to receive the toe of a hosiery form 11, as shown in Fig. 1. The wall when transparent permits visual inspection of the pattern at the toe of the hose displayed on the form. The wall l6, however, is preferably opaque so that the double thickness of the hose at the bottom of the foot is concealed. It will be seen that the converging side 8 and the truncated portion 9 are so shaped that the arch and the heel of the hosiery on the form are clearly visible from the rear of the form and that the only part of the hosiery which is concealed is the double thickness at the bottom of the foot or toe.
While one embodiment of this invention has been described herein and shown on the drawing, it will be understood that the invention is not limited thereto and that other embodiments may be made without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as set forth in the following claim.
I claim:
A support for a hosiery form comprising in combination, a base having upwardly converging sides extending from opposite ends thereof and connected by a truncated portion, one of the converging sides being provided with a recess extending substantially the length thereof, a curved wall secured at three sides to the adjacent walls of said recess and coacting therewith to define a pocket, said pocket having an opening in its top to receive the toe of the hosiery form so as to support the same in an upright or tip-toe position, and the other converging side being shaped so that the arch and heel of the hosiery on the form are clearly visible from the rear of the form.
