Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
CALVIN PARSONS AND B. S. DANE, OF ROME CENTRE, MICHIGAN.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 50,6211, dated October 21,1865.
To all lwhom it may concern.' Y
' Be it known that we, CALVIN PARSONS and B. S. DANE, of Rome Centre, in the county of Senawee and State ot' Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Washing- Machines; andwe do hereby declare that the folrepresenting its several parts, viz; box-AA,
feet B B, bottom D, journal-plate E, rollers F,
slots G, rubber B, itsvsides I L barsJ J, and
handle K. e
AThe rubber H, sides I I, bars J'J, and handle K are all framed solid together.
The jonrnaLplates E are fastened inside of the box, resting on 'its bottom D, said plates having holes in them at suitable positions toy receive the journals of the rollers F. Said journals are attached to the ends ot' the rollers and are not seen-iu the drawing; also, there is but one'o'f the journal-plates E seen in the drawing. Thus itis plain that when 'all are attached together the Vrollers are free to revolve on their journals in a line parallel withA thelbottorn of the box.
VS-Te will describe "the operation of our inachine 'as follows: When theoperator Wishes to use it he lifts the rubber H up from the rollers F by grasping the' hendleK at L. He then places the clothes-to be washed'on the rollers F, and, putting in .water enough to cover the clothes, he stands at 0,'(the end of the ma-v cl1ine,) which is a proper position to take hold ofthe handle K, and then, pressing the rubber down on' the clothes, draws it to the position ofthe'dotted lines M, its bars J J being free toslide through the slot'sGr.v Thus it is clear to be seen that the operatorcan rub the clothes to any extent he may choose.-
After thus havingI described our invention,
what weclaim, land-desire to secure by Letters Patent, isf The arrangement described, consisting ot' l the rollers F in the fralnesE. andthe rubberl H, operated' by means of the cross-bar L, and
I guided by the `bars J in the slots G.
vCALVIN PARSONS. B. s. DANE.
