J.G0'R-TON. GAS STOVE.
No. 506,174. Patented Oct. 3, 1893.

AMWAQ ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES GORTON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GAS-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 506,174, dated October 3, 1893.'
Application filed November 17, 1892- Serial No. 452,266. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AMES GORTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gas-Stoves, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to an improvement 1n gas stoves and the invention consists in certain novel features of construction set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the annexed drawings in which Figure 1, is a front elevation of the stove sectioned along so a: Fig. 2. Fig. 2, is a section along y y Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is a section along 2 2 Fig. 1.
The sheet metal casing or shell A of the stove is provided with a series of air tubes B extending transversely therethrough and open at both ends to the external atmosphere. A gas or supply pipe 0 is secured to the casing or shell and is provided with gas outlets c, c communicating respectively with burner tubes D D extending into the shell at right angles, or substantially so, to the axes of the air tubes B and each provided with a series of gas jet orifices. The gas supply pipe 0 is provided with a stop cock cl at a point between the gas outlets c and c. The burner tubes D D are open at one end for the entrance of gas from the openings 0 c, the other ends of the burner tubes D D being closed. If the cock at is open both series of burners will be supplied with gas but on closing cock (1 the gas from supply tube 0 will only feed the burner tube D.
The gas from the burners of the tubes D D can be ignited through the openings E E in the shell. Said shell is open at the bottom so that air can pass to the burner. The top of the shell is closed or bridged as at F but has lateral openings G for the escape of the products of combustion. A handle H serves for carrying or lifting the stove. In order to prevent soiling from any smut or impurity that may drop through the open bottom of the shell a box, tray or shelf I is secured below said shell as seen.
Of course in place of only two series of burners D D, I may have more series of burners and cooks, d. The tray or trough I may be supplied with water for evaporation.
What I claim. as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v 1. A gas stove, consisting of a shell A having its upper portion closed by a bridge F and provided with opposite lateral escape openings G, a series of air tubes B extending transversely through the shell, a series of burner tubes D D, extending into the shell substanstantially at right angles to the axes of the air tubes and each provided with gas jet orifices, one end of each tube being closed and the other end opening through the shell, a gas supply pipe 0 having gas outlets c and 0 communicating respectively with the open ends of the burner tubes, and a valve 01 located in the gas supply pipe between its gas outlets, substantially as described.
2. A gas stove, consisting of ashell A,a series of air tubes B extending transversely through the shell, a series of burner tubes D Y D, extending into the shell substantially at right angles to the axes of the air tubes and each provided with gas jet orifices, one end of each burner tube being closed and the other end opening through the shell and one burner tube being arranged below the air tubes and the other between the air tubes, and a gas supply pipe 0 having gas outlets c and c communicating respectively with the open ends of the burner tubes, substantially as described.
3. A gas stove, consisting of a shell A, a series of air tubes B extending transversely through the shell,a series of burner tubes D, D extending into the shell substantially at right angles to the axes of the air tubes and each provided with gas jet orifices, one end of each burner tube being closed and the other end opening through the shell and one burner tube arranged below the air tubes and the other extending between the air tubes, a gas supply pipe C having gas outlets c and 0 communicating respectively with the open ends of the burner tubes, and a valve (1 located in the gas supply pipe between its gas outlets, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES GORTON. Witnesses:
WM. 0. HAUFF, E. F. KASTENHUBER.
