S FREE GLOVE HOLDER.
N 506,038. Patented 001;. 3,1893.
TNITE STATES PATENT FFICE.
STANLEY FREE, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
GLOVE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 506,038, dated October 3, 1893.
Application filed May 29, 1893.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, STANLEY FREE, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Glove-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following,'when taken in connection with accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a perspective view of a gloveholder embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a plan view illustrating how the holder is cut from a single piece of material; Fig. 3, a sectional view on line 90-00 of Fig; 1.
This invention relates to an improvement in glove-holders, and particularly to such as are employed by manufacturers in packing gloves in boxes for the market. It is customary to place several pairs between two long strips of card-board, and secure them by a band passing around the two strips. Several such packages are placed in a box for the trade. It is often desirable to place an advertisement upon the outside of the strips, but as the band is liable to slip or the strip become reversed, the benefit of such advertising is lost.
The object of this invention is to form the strips and band from a single piece of material, and it consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
The holder is preferably made from celluloid, and consists of two long strips A B, united midway of their length by a short strap or hinge O. The edge of the strips opposite the strap 0, is extended to form a flap D, the said strip, strap, and flap being cut from a single piece of material. Preferably the corners formed by the strip and strap and flap, are rounded, as at a, to prevent tearing. The flap D, is provided with a hook b,'and the strip A, with a series of eyelets c c adapted to receive the hook b, and so that the size of holder may be readily changed to conform to the varying number of gloves in the pack- Serial No. 475,960. (No model.)
age. To prevent possible injury to the gloves by the hook I), I preferably secure a strip d, by its ends to the inside of the strip A, beneath the eyelets .c, and upon which the end of the hook I), will rest. If preferred, the hook may be secured to the strip A, and the eyelets in the flap D, which will avoid the difficulty just referred to, and not require the strap d. By this construction, the strip B, is free from obstruction, and the means for binding the package are always in proper position.
I would have it understood that I do not limit myself to hooks and eyesfor securing the parts, as any known devices may be employed for that purpose. I am aware, however, that a strap for packages of gloves has been made which is adjustable as to length, and do not therefore wish to be understood as claiming such as my invention.
I claim- 1. A glove holder comprising two long strips, having their edges united by a short strap or hinge, .and a flap extending outward from the outer edgeof one strip and adapted to have its end adj ustably engaged with the other strip substantially as described.
2. The herein described glove-holderformed from a single piece of material, and consisting of two connected strips and a flap extending from one strip and adapted to be adjustably secured to the other strip, substantially as described.
3. A glove-holder consisting of two strips connected midway of their length, a flap extending from the outer edge of one of the strips and adapted to be secured to the other strip, the corners formed by the strips, strap, and flap being rounded, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
STANLEY FREE.
