Description

(No Model.) r C, 'J.-
B'IENGRA-BER. GOVERTASTENINGPOB, POTS.
210,505,432. Patented Sept. 26; 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL JOHANN PAUL B'IENGRABER, OF HAMBURG, GERMANY.
COVER-FASTENING FOR POTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,432, dated September 26, 1893.
Application filed April 5 1893. Serial No. 469.105. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL J OHANN PAUL BIENGRABER, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at Hamburg, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oover-Fastenings for Pots, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved cover fastening for pots which is constructed with a view of holding the cover to its seat, while the pot is inclined, to discharge its contents.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation partly in section of a pot provided with my improved cover fastening. Fig. 2 is a top view thereof.
The letter D representsa pot or can having nozzle D, and handle D as usual. The neck I), of the pot D, is provided with an eccentric undercut flange a, which gradually increases in width from the rear toward the front. That is to say, while the undercut flange a, is widest in line with the nozzle D, itgradually merges into the rim of the neck I), toward the rear (Fig. 2). The lid or cover 0, is supported upon a seat a and will, by the eccentric flange a, be securely held in place when the pot is tilted, as will be readily understood. It will be seen that as the flange extends only over the front half of the cover, the latter may be put in place, by being slightly tilted and slipped underneath the flange. Thus the cover may be made of the same size as its seat and will not rattle or slip when the pot is in use.
What I claim is The combination of a pot having a shou1- der a which is exposed at its rear half, with an eccentric flange which extends over the front of the shoulder and with a cover adapted to fit upon the shoulder, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
