vENToR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LUCIS TRACY SHEFFIELD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
RAZO R-ST RO P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,134, dated September 19, 1893..
Application led January 17, 1893. Serial No. 458.667. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, LUcrUs TEACY SHEE- FIELD, of the cit-y, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Im provement in Razor-Strops, of which the following is a full, true, and exact description, reference being had to 4the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to an improvement in razor strops, in which the improvement is in the means for the application of agritty substance to the strop for the purpose of sharpening razors, duc.
The improvement consists in a strop, a sliding receptacle attached thereto, and stops at either end of the strop to prevent the receptacle from moving off the end of the strop.
Referring to the drawings hereto anneXed:-Figure 1. is a plan view of a strop embodying my invention. Fig. 2. is an edge view thereof. Fig. 3.is an interior plan view of a receptacle for gritty substance. Fig. 4. is a plan View of the securing device therefor. Fig. 5. is a section of the receptacle complete. Fig. 6 shows a stop button and fastening device for the end loops.
Referring by letter -to the drawingsz-A- designates a razor strop having loops D. secured to it at the ends providing a handle and means for hanging the strop. The loops D. are secured to the strop by means of rivets or screws a., having enlarged heads a. which serve as stops for the sliding receptacle B. The receptacle B. has a top portion b. transversely recessed as at b.toreceive the strop. The sides of said recess engage over the edges of the strop. The bottom portion b2. engages against the under side of the strop and is secured to the top portion by means of screws or rivets or otherwise.
C. shows a gritty substance, such, for instance, as emery, secured in the recess b. of the top b, and bearing ou the upper portion of the strop.
When it is desired to apply gritty substance to the strop, the receptacle B. is moved back and forth thereon until a sufficient quantity shall have been applied.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure' by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a razor strop of a receptacle movably attached to said strop for applying a gritty substance thereto, substantially as specified.
2. The combination with a razor strop of a receptacle for applying a gritty substance to the strop,\the said receptacle being provided with a slot through which the strop may slide, substantially as specified.
3. The combination with a razor strop of a sliding receptacle for applying a gritty substance thereto, and stoppers attached to a strop at both ends preventing the removal of the sliding receptacle, substantially as specied.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
, LUCIUS TRACY SHEFFIELD.
