Description

(No Mdel.)
L. J. KING. HANDLE GLAMP,&0.
N0. 504,221. Patent-ed Aug. 29, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS JONES KING, on SI'IOAL CREEK, GEORGIA, ASSIGNOE OE ONE-HALE To T. E. KNOX, OE SAME PLAGE.
HANDLE-CLAM P, 840.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 504,221, dated August 29, 1893.
Application led December l, 1892. Serial No. 453,732. (No model.)
- tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the'accompanying drawings, andlto the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in plow stocks of that class in which provision is made for the adjustment of the handles'as occasion may require, and it has for its objects among others to provide a simplified and cheaper construction and arrangement of parts whereby both handles can be quickly and easily adjusted and this simultaneously.
The novelty in the present instance resides in the peculiar combinations, and the construction, arrangement and adaptation of parts whereby the desired end is accomplished in a more approved manner, andas more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improvements. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the clamps. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View of one of the clamps removed.
Like letters of reference in dicate like parts throughout the several views in which they appear.
Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the plow stock or beam which may be of any wellknown or approved form of construction.
B are the handles which may also be of any suitable form and as they are in no way weakened by holes for the bolts or for any other purpose they need not be so heavy as heretofore. These handles are held in place in the following manner: C are clamps, one upon each side of the plow beam and although the shape shown is preferred they may be of any desired shape; they are each formed upon their inner face, that is the one nearest the beam, with a socket or recess c to receive the ends of the handles and these sockets or recesses may extend any suitable length and are arranged between the curved slot and the bolt hole, passing out at the rear upper corner of the clamp, as seen in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. The clamps are each further provided with an elongated slot d preferably on a curve as shown. The clamps are pivoted on the plow beam by means of a pivot E at the rear end thereof as shown and then a bolt F is passed through the slots of the clamps and through the beam and this bolt is provided upon one or both ends with a nut G whereby it may be tightened and secured in place when desired. It will thus be seen that the plow handles are not weakened in any way, they are not provided with holes for the passage of bolts, and when it is desired to adjust the handles up or down as the height of the person using the same may demand al1 that it is necessary to do is to loosen the nut on the bolt and move the handles in the direction required and then tighten the nut and they will be held in their adjusted position. The two handles are moved simultaneously and the clamps are also moved together. Y
From the foregoing description and accompanying drawings the operation and advantages of the invention will be readily understood.
What I claim as new is- The combination with the plow beam, of the clamps pivoted thereon and having slots, and sockets extending in an inclined direction between the slots and bolt holes of the clamps and terminating at the upper rear corner of the clamp the handles having their ends held in said sockets, and the bolt and nut for simultaneously adjusting the clamps and handles, as set forth. Y
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEWIS JONES KING.
