Description

(N 0 Model.)
B. SHAW. LASSO.
No. 504,055; Patented Aug. 29, 1893'.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDGAR SHAW, OF SWAMPSOOTT, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE LARIAT MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
LASSO.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 504,055, dated August 29, 1893.
7 Application filed February 1, 1893. Serial No. 460,595. (No model.)
in the county of Essex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Lasso, of which the following is a full specification.
My invention relates to an improved lasso of peculiar construction, which, while especially intended for a toy is at the same time applicable for many of the practical uses for which such an implement is employed, such as catching animals, 850.
My invention hereinafter described is an improvement on thelasso shown and described in United States Letters Patent No. 474,103, granted to me May 3, 1892.
My invention consists of a stop which is applied to the loop of the lasso, and an improved noose-forming swivel strap hereinafter described.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 shows a lasso embodying my inven-- tion. Fig. 2 shows the noose of the lasso and illustrates the action of the stop. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of one of the swivels and of portions of the lasso adjacent thereto, and Fig. 4 shows the noose forming swivel strap.
A is the loop portion of my lasso.
B is the gatheringrope, and O is the swivel by which A and B are connected.
D is my improved noose-forming swivel strap. It is formed of a short piece of leather having a hole in each end. Through one of these holes (1' is knotted the end of the rope A, and through the other d which is elongated, the rope A slides. The inner side of this latter hole 01 isformed by the end of a tongue (i which has the same width as the 1 hole, and is cut from, and forms part of, the strap itself. By means of this tongue the swivel strap is made to slide easily on the rope A, and is prevented from binding on the rope. V
E is the stop firmly fixed on the noose. It is preferably formed by a leather collar, having projecting ears which are turned under and bound securely to the rope A. The sliding swivel strap D strikes against the flat side of the stop E, and the distance of the stop from the end of the rope A determines the smallest size to which the noose may be drawn.
In my improved lasso the noose is made to work very easily and surely, and, at the same time is prevented by the stop from being drawn too tight. Thus, when the lasso is used as a toy, any danger of choking or injury is avoided.
I claim- In a lasso, the combination with a loopforming rope A of the noose forming swivel D, provided with the tongue 61 all arranged for the purpose substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
EDGAR SHAW.
