L. G. STITT.
SKELETON WAIST.
Patented Aug 22; 1893.
INVENTOH ad-4 I A 7TORNE Y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUISE G. STITT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SKELETON WAIST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 503,916, dated August 22, 1893.
Application filed October '7, 1892- Serial No. 48,108. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
zen of the United States, and a resident of Chi cago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skeleton Waists, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a skeleton brace or waist and garment support for childrens wear in which provision is made for supporting the clothing and it consists in certain novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, whereby a very effective support is obtained with an easy, neat and graceful fit of the brace or waist and with superior comfort to the wearer. V
In the accompanying drawings Figure I. represents a front view embodying my invention; Fig. II. a rear view of the same. Fig. III. is a view of a side section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A. indicates the side sections which are counterparts of each other which are composed of the front part B and the rear part C and may be constructed of a single 'or double thickness of material and united at their upper portions by sewing a or they may be cut out of a single piece of fabric.
The letter A indicates the elongated armhole or arm size (Fig. III) which in this particular construction is rendered more comfortable to the wearer than the round arm size or arm hole ordinarily used, and it is much more durable, due to the mannerin which it is closed at the lower extension; moreover by its long shape it is not discolored by perspiration and it does not tear out under the arm as all other waists do.
The front and rear sections B C are united at their sides by a reinforcing piece D, by sewin g, which pieces D are provided with buttons 1) or other suitable fastening devices. To one edge of the upper, lowerand intermediate portions of the front part B are secured by stitching one end of horizontal straps of elastic webbing E while the other ends of the straps E are left free and are provided with buttons D to engage button holes D worked in one edge of the front parts B. About the midlength of the horizontal straps E at right angles thereof is secured by stitching or other suitable means a vertical strap of elastic webbing F the lower part of which strap F is provided with buttons F.
To both edges of the upper, lower and intermediate portions of the rear parts C are united by stitching or otherwise, the two ends of the parallel horizontal straps of elastic webbing G and they are joined at about their midlength at right angles thereof by a vertical strap of elastic webbing G having on its lower part buttons G which co-operate with the other buttons on the brace to support the garments of the wearer.
It will be seen that by my construction of the skeleton support and waist I obtain an article that permits the greatest freedom and grace of motion and at the same time affording a perfect and economical support to the clothing, due to its simplicity, elasticity and its inexpensive cost of manufacture.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture the herein described skeleton brace and garment supporter comprising two halves which are counter parts of each other composed of front and back sections joined by shoulder straps forming arm holes, and united at the front and rear by parallel elastic strips with vertical strips uniting the parallel elastic strips and having the waist provided with means for supporting the apparel, substantially as shown and described.
Signed at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, this 4th day of August,
LOUISE G. STITT. Witnesses:
W. E. S'rrr'r, EDA M. DOTY.
