HOLDER FOR CUFFS, etc.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 503,858, dated August 22, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD KATZER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented anew and Improved Holder for Cufis, Collars, and other Articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved holder, which is simple and durable in construction, more especially designed for the use of travelers, &c., and arranged for conveniently holding cuffs, collars, scarfs, neck-ties, handkerchiefs and other articles.

The invention consists of a holder provided at its ends with covers, and supporting on its folding or bellows sides a series of longitudinally-extending partitions forming separate compartments for the articles to be stored.

The invention also consists of certain parts and details, and combinations of the same, as Will be hereinafter described and then pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same.

The improved holder is provided with a back A, connected by the two folding or bellows sides B and B, with .the front 0, as plainly shown in the drawings. On the ends of the back A are held the covers D and D adapted to fold onto the front 0, to close the ends of the holder, the said covers being adapted to be locked in place on the front 0 by suitable fastening devices E and E respectively. The bellows sides B and B support longitudinally extending partitions F arranged parallel with the back A and front 0, the said partitions decreasing in length from the back to the front so as to form compartments G, G, G between the back and front, which compartments are of different lengths, arranged step-like at their ends and adapted to be covered or closed. at their ends by the covers D and D. The individual compartments are adapted to receive the articles to be stored such as ouifs, collars, handkerchiefs, neck-ties and other similar articles, forming part of the wearing apparel, it being understood that the said articles are introduced into the compartments from either open end of the respective compartment, at the time the corresponding cover D or D is in an open position, as shown to the left in Fig. 1.

' If desired, the covers D and D may be made integral with the back A, or separate therefrom, as illustrated on the cover D in Fig. 2, part of the said cover then being fitted to slide in the back A and connected with an elastic H secured to the back, and permitting of lengthening the cover D to accommodate articles of a length more than that of the back A, it being understood that part of the said cover is drawn out at the back A, to lengthen the holder. If desired, one of the ends of the holder may be closed permanently by a bellows shaped end, but I prefer the construction shown and described, that is, a cover at each end.

It will be seen that by this holder, collars, cuffs and other articles may be conveniently stored in a flat condition in the several compartments, it being understood that the bellows sides B and B permit of storing a large number of such articles in the corresponding compartments without rendering the holder bulky. It will also be seen that when the covers D and D are open, convenient access is had to the individual articles stored in the several compartments, owing to the step-like arranged ends of the several compartments.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A holder of the class described, comprising a back, a front, bellows sides connecting the back with the front, longitudinally-extending partitions supported on the said bellows sides and made of diiferent lengths to form step-like openings for the compartments, and a cover adapted to fold over the open end of the compartments, substantially as shown and described.
