SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 503,382, dated August 15, 1893.

To all whom t may concern:

Beit known that. I, ANNETTA MYERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Ashbourne, Montgomery county, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to so construct agame board upon which can be played a game using marbles or balls and a cue, that it will be difficult to make points and in which skill will be required. This object I attain in the following manner reference being' had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l, is a perspective view illustrating` my im proved game board showing the method of playing. Fig. 2, is a plan View of the board. Fig. 3, is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 4, is a sectional view showing the game packed. single game board; and Fig. G, is a view illustrating the posts having more than one pocket.

A is the base of the game board in which I prefer to form two grooves a a., one at each side for the reception of the marbles or balls with which the game is played. This base is surrounded by a wall B and is of such a height that a cover can be applied thereto and the whole form a box in which the different loose parts of the game can be stored. PreferablyT in the centerot' the base is mounted a post D in which is a pocket d for the reception of the marbles or balls, this pocket being very little larger than theinarhle so that it will be diflicult to direct the marbles into the pocket. At each side of this central post D are posts E somewhat higher than the post D and thetop cof each post is depressed as shown in Fig. 3, so that a marble can be placed upon the post as shown in Fig. l.

The game is played by placing a marble on one of the posts e as shown in Fig. l, and using a cue F and so guiding the cue that it will strike the marble with such force as to direct it into the pocket d. The pocket is large enough in the present instance to hold four marbles, but it may be made to hold more than four if necessary and the game may be counted in any manner and the number of marbles used will be regulated according to the rules of playing the game.

I have shown in Fig. l, a double board having two posts E, but it will be understood Fig. 5, is a View showing a" that a single post E may be used as shown in Fig. 5, without departing from my invention and the post D may be duplicated vor may have more than one pocket as shown for instance inFig. G and more than two posts E may be used where it is desirable to have more than two players. The main object of the invention being to provide an elevated rest for a marble or ball and an elevated pocket in which the marble is directed.

It will be noticed in playing the game that both hands will have to be elevated and practically unsupported and consequently the player should hold both his hands perfectly steady to insure success.

The several posts are detachable from the base, in the present instance having pins which extend into holes in the base so that on removing the posts they can be packed with the marbles and cues.

I claim as my inventionl. The com bination in a game board, of the base, a post having a pocket therein, with a second post adapted to receive a ball or marble, substantially as described.

2. The combination of the base, with a ceutral post having a pocket in its upper portion adapted to receive a ball or marble, with a post on each side of the central post each side post being recessed at the top to receive a marble, substantially as described.

3. The combination of the base A, the side walls B, grooves on each side of the base for the reception of marbles, a central post D having a pocket (l and a side post or posts recessed at the top upon which the marble can be mounted, substantially as described.

4. The combination of the base having side walls, the detachable central post having a pocket, with detachable side post or posts upon which a marble may be mounted in playing the game, substantially as described.

5. The combination of the base, the postE upon which a marble is mounted, with a post D having a central upper pocket and one or more side pockets, su bstantially as described.
